Here's another rendering

Also, a new 12 storey residential building that construction could start as soon as this summer. Unfortunately, it won't be seen from Ottawa since hidden from TC and the new government building 22, Eddy street.

This wouldn't be so bad, especially if any other developers tried to build anything to the north or east of this development to transition down to the older little buildings in the area...

It's funny that they chose to step it down to the West, when Terraces does the opposite. At least from that angle, it seems to me that the westernmost tower would feel pretty hemmed-in, and shafted for views, except to the North (which would be spectacular).

Some more renders, including 71 Wellington (12 storey building just to the immediate north of 22 Eddy).

Interesting that all the measurements in those images are in feet and not meters.

If all of those buildings go up...Gatineau is going to have a pretty decent skyline of it's own, from multiple vantage points. Moreso than it has before...

Agreed. However, its too bad they are not closer to Laval st. which is more the central core of Gatineau.

The gap will close up eventually. Just like the gap between Place Bell and the CBD is finally closing up after 42 years.

I hope this is the catalyst for a lot more development on the Gatineau side. The new office towers are great at filling in gaps, but for the casual observer they are invisible. They need to do something iconic over there, perhaps even one-up Ottawa. That would be great for both sides of the river! This is a start!

I was disappointed with the height of those office towers considering les Terraces and Place du Portage. But I agree, I would love to see 2-3 buildings of 35-40 floors on the Hull side. And considering the lower overall costs of building on the Gatineau side, I would imagine it would be easier to come up with a fantastic design without compromising ones budget. It's not like they are selling those condos much cheaper than in Ottawa.

Speaking of fantastic design, what do you think of the VIU?

IMO, it is one of the nicest buildings in the area...especially when approaching from Alexandria bridge of observing from Sussex drive.

Totally agree, but it's the first and only one with fantastic design on the Gatineau side to date (not counting the casino complex).

The new Gatineau Sports Centre on Maloney is very very nice, kills any leisure centres on this side. I really like the use of wood, which is a nice token of appreciation for Gatineau's logging history.

Maybe we should start a "what isn't butt ugly in Gatineau" thread.

That would be a short thread.

My 3 year old told me "Gatineau est vraiment laid, eh papa?" when we were in the car on Allumettières near St. Rédempteur.

"Well, they're trying to improve the downtown, see? with tax credits and attracting people and ..."

"zzzzz".

Now they have decided to eliminate one tower, and propose two 33-storey towers on angles to the street.

Very interesting, and intriguing: anybody has a idea what they mean by "... structure in 'basilaire' similar to that of a pyramid.."? It looks like architecture jargon.
