Just when I thought I had read it all, now Houston needs to take some lessons from Buffalo on urban planning!

Yeah, cause we all know how well Buffalo has turned out...

I noticed the same thing when I stayed down in Houston at the Aloft Hotel months back. The beacon never did come on.

It might still be out from Hurricane Ike, though I highly doubt it. Williams Tower suffered some pretty nasty damage on the very top during Ike. Its kinda hard to imagine them not replacing it since its been almost 1 1/2 years since Ike made landfall on the Texas Gulf Coast.

Maybe they're just trying to conserve energy who knows, but an icon like that in a skyline like Houston's should never be allowed to go dim at dusk.

Just my .02

Negative...it never came on the last few times I've seen it just this year. In the past, yes, it would usually shut off between 11-12 AM.

there's still a lot of damage and repair from Ike; the revolving restaurant on top of the Hyatt hasn't reopened.

and won't ever be. the entire revolving restaurant was lifted off the track and it was deemed to costly to repair.

@ metro matt, i noticed that too. the other day it was on but it has been off for a number of days as well. i see it outside by living room window, so ill have to check if it is on tonight.
