Nope. Neither of those will open in Ottawa until they get downtown spots. Bayshore's new stores will be HomeSense, Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch and Harnn & Thann.

Well then I won't hold my breath. It's odd though - both the H&M and Zara stores in Quebec City are in that huge 3-mall complex [I]outside[I] the downtown area as opposed to having shops in the old town itself!

I heard there's a Lacoste store opening in Rideau Centre. Is that true? If so, when does it open?

Yes, should be in the next two weeks. It's where the Roots used to be on the second floor, near GAP.

Thanks. This is great news and I hope more 'premium' brands set up shop here in due course.

HBC might own the land that they currently sit on (The Bay at least), and might be unwilling to go through the costs of moving.

I think it makes sense to expand eastward, though if it's three floors of extension, would people just go through the Zeller store in the first and second store like they do Sears in Toronto Eaton Centre?

That's great, since there seems to be a lot of stores that have been bearish on Ottawa because of lack of space? H&M, Zara, even Banana Republic took forever to open its doors in Ottawa.

Yeah, Québec City is weird that way. My wife once famously groaned that even their Holt Renfrew is in a strip mall. Might have to do with the lack of space for large outlets in the city's historic downtown core. A problem we no longer have since much of our downtown outside Byward is no more than 3 or 4 decades old.

Didn't Bayshore start out as 1 floor and then it went to 2 and then 3. IIRC the transit area on the west side wasn't there from the beginning. Somtimes, when you try and shoehorn in things after the initial construction it gets difficult to make if work efficiently.
Bayshore started out at least as 2 floors and the anchor stores at both ends were the size they are today. The 3rd floor may have been added later. The buses used to wait along Woodridge Cres.

Is there another phase coming for the Trainyards? if so, will there be any new-to-Ottawa stores opening up there? I know there's a Bed bath and Beyond and Oshkosh-Carters there now, both firsts for the region.

Contrary to Ottawa, Quebec City also doesn’t have a North American-style CBD where these big stores (think Holt Renfrew) can set up shop. Plus, commercial thoroughfares in downtown Ottawa (along Rideau and Bank streets for example) have few historically and architecturally significant buildings (or even with any semblance of character), contrary to many streets even outside the walls of Vieux-Québec like Grande-Allée, Avenue Cartier, etc.

Cool, thanks.

I see Scores is expanding again in Ottawa. That makes 4 locations I can think of in the region (Hull, Gatineau, Kanata and now here!)

Scores! I love that place.

Talk about insane value for good food. Where else can you get a meal for around $8 that includes a kick-azz 1/4 rotisserie chicken, choice of side, and unlimited access to a soup/salad/fruit bar?

Ever since Scores opened its first location in the region (Maloney Blvd/Gatineau) several years ago I haven't gone back to Swiss Chalet, and probably never will again.

They also have a very, very dangerous chocolate/caramel brownie dessert...

Scores eh? I'll have to try it out. I'm still partial to St-Hubert. Swiss Chalet has tasted like plastic to me for years.

The décor is a bit less chic than St-Hubert, but the food is quite similar in style and quality, and less expensive.

Don't forget that Scores also serves a devastating chicken noodle soup. It's a real powerhouse.
