Yes last departure Calgary YYC - São Paulo GRU Brazil is February 14th & with the return on February 15th GRU - YYC .

Not too surprising as Mid February - WestJet needs the 787 plane ✈️ used on 3x weekly YYC - GRU - YYC (to do some Mexico flights from YYC) as from mid February onwards to end of March it is the start of Spring Break time + 1 week reading break for University / College students in Canada = demand for Mexico ✅.

Wonder if this cut in GRU schedule has anything to do with Starlink getting installed (finally) on the Dreamliner’s this fall/winter?

No, it was primarily done due to the rising cost of fuel. Given it is the longest route in WS network it was the most at risk/exposed so they opted to shorten it to just peak season.

I suspect if it goes well they'll consider doing it for the full winter season next year.

They still haven't redeployed that freed up 787 frame yet. Seems a bit late to add more November frequencies to either ICN or FCO.

Also that user mentions Mexico - but CUN / PVR have already been scheduled on the 787 and don't need the freed up frame to work. (CUN is up to 2x daily / PVR 6x weekly).

American Airlines launches seasonal Calgary-New York service

American Airlines has launched new seasonal service between Calgary International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

The airline will operate three flights per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from Aug. 6 to Oct. 4.

The service will be operated using Boeing 737 aircraft with capacity for 172 passengers.

“We are proud to continue growing our presence in Canada during a milestone year for American and American’s Canadian service,” said Paola Torri, director of operations for Canada and Mexico at American Airlines.

“With this new service, customers in Calgary can seamlessly connect through our JFK hub to destinations across the United States, Europe and beyond.”

“We’re seeing more Americans choose Calgary as their destination of choice, whether they’re coming for Stampede, exploring our city’s vibrant culture or using Calgary as their gateway to the mountains,” said Balázs Bogáts, chief commercial officer at Calgary Airports.

Flights will depart New York at 9:29 a.m. and arrive in Calgary at 2:16 p.m. The return flight will depart Calgary at 3:37 p.m. and arrive in New York at 9 p.m.

American already was serving YYC-New York with its weekly LGA flights launched last year.

The JFK flights operate on opposite days of CLT so they are now at 5x daily (except for 6 flights on Saturday).

Even as transborder traffic dips, it's nice to see the level of capacity remain relatively strong. I'm pleasantly surprised more cuts haven't been made.


Seems like MEX is finally working, despite the bad timings. I wonder why.
