My main reasoning for mentioning railings is more about protecting native landscaping from people just walking through it. There are some railings along 5th east of I35 separating the sidewalk from the street. It directs people to the proper crossings at the intersections rather than crossing wherever. I would be fine without them if people respect the landscaping and dont trample over it.
