I’m glad the city is pushing this through, even if it might haunt them later. Either through the courts or the press giving the curling club an even more sympathetic ear.

An appeals hearing will be heard on July 30th by the Standing Policy Committee on Property and Development, for Variance - DAV 185176A/2026B the appellant is, Mr. John Wintrup.

The appeal challenges the planning director’s approval of two variances for 30 Granite Way: allowing a height of 126 feet instead of the usual 100 feet, and permitting narrower parking stalls (8–9.7 feet instead of 10 feet next to walls or columns) plus reduced landscaping beside a public street for an above-grade parking facility.

Maybe they can redevelop Mostyn Park while theyre at it. Another bike chop shop encampment popped up there. Certainly a locus for crime in the neighbourhood.

It’s crazy that one person making an appeal sends projects to a new committee with no knowledge or history with the development of the proposal and delays a project by months.

Also crazy that this guy’s business is to get councillors to approve development projects but he spends his time raging against councillors and now opposing development that the city itself is trying to implement. The issues in West Broadway are becoming headline news and you still oppose affordable housing projects, even after the stupid parking issue is resolved?

If I was on council and he brought a project forward I’d vote it down just for spite.

Can the city fast track appeals? If anything this seems like it would be the time. Ram it through, what a joke of an appeal. I actually cannot believe that someone across the river has the ability to do this on a residential project, mind blowing.

I think rule is you have to live within a kilometre of the site to appeal. There needs to be more than a one person threshold.

I don’t think there’s much chance it gets rejected. It’s just stupid that they have to go through the delays. I think the biggest issue is the pending decision from the courts. Granite wants the city to be forced to follow the Municipal Board decision even though their powers have since been removed by the province. If the judge says yes, then the Granite, as a rental tenant, gets veto power over what development the property owner can do.

He's just delaying the inevitable.

The fact that he wants to delay this is such a colossal waste of time.

I hope the judge sees this as a waste of time and go ahead with this development in a critical time of our city and country where housing is in desperate need.
