It seems to have been replaced by this arch of similar design reflecting the name change at the end of the article above. It's now the Irvine Regional Park. The centennial was 1897-1997.

Marker is in Seal Beach, California, in Orange County. It is at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Electric Avenue, on the right when traveling north on Ocean Avenue.

The Fox Florence Theatre was at 1536 E Florence Avenue. It closed in 1965 and was demolished in 1968.

The Fox Florence Theatre opened April 8, 1932 and was designed by architect S. Charles Lee. The main entrance had a courtyard with a fountain that had fish and a statue in the center. The courtyard had boutiques all around and at the end of the courtyard was the entrance to the theatre, which had four or six very large doors.

To the left and to the right were two spiral staircases. The theatre seemed large, with just over 1,700 seats.

The Fox Florence Theatre closed around 1965 and was torn down around 1968. A Rite-Aid Pharmacy now stands on the site. This theatre looked similar to the Fox Arlington Theatre which still operates today in Santa Barbara.

There only seems to be one Karpe family in the CDs of the 1890s. The man in the picture may be Gustave Karpe (senior). He seems to have died by 1898, but his son (presumably), Gustave A Karpe moves into the cigar business, and in the 1905 CD he has his own shop.
