I like the ampitheater mock-up/idea. Miss me with the luxury/resort elements though. Wish we had something like it permanent on Auditorium Shores, plus a shaded seating area. Recalls a memory of going to the Hollywood Bowl 25 years ago this summer to see Diana Krall and the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra.

Moody Amphitheater is mostly fine, but lacks a couple elements I would have liked.

HEB stage at Long Center leaves more to be desired (plus get rid of the sponsorship logo).

Where in the hill country is this thing gonna be located? It wasn't too long ago less than a year we had a proposed music venue between Oak Hill and Dripping Springs (near the corner of Fitzhugh and Troutwein). Huge backlash that ultimately got it cancelled. Locals don't want this kinda thing in our backyards.

I believe the backlash for the other one was because it was situated near the water table or something.

This actually looks really cool and I'm all for it

EDIT: I meant to say, this will 100% not get built though.

This is roughly accross SH71 from where Southwest Parkway ends at SH71. The last project proposed for this site included two ~400' towers IIRC. But it was canned because it couldn't get approval for waterline connections.

Hospital opens for patients in Austin on Monday

Quote:
Ascension Seton will open a new hospital tailored toward women’s healthcare on Monday in Central Austin.

Ascension Seton Women’s Hospital is located on the south side of the main Ascension Seton Medical Center campus on West 38th Street. Ascension broke ground on the 325,000-square-foot facility in March 2023. The project experienced several delays in the years leading up to its opening.

Swaney said patients would begin transitioning from Ascension Seton Medical Center’s current women’s area to the new dedicated hospital on Monday. The hospital system has not yet announced what the old space will be used for once the transition is complete.

That Seton facility certainly has expanded since my brother (Associate CEO of Seton in the 1970s) oversaw the hospital move from its original West Campus location to 38th Street.
It was quite a project to get the new hospital built, plan and execute the actual move from the old to the new, then close out the old building.
I still have some nurse station cabinets from the old hospital in my garage.
Two of my sons were born in the old location in the early 1970s, and I had a heart procedure done at the new about 25 years ago.

Kelly Slater’s Austin Surf Club faces $16M in liens as it looks to restart construction

Quote:
Austin Surf Club, a 333-acre private artificial surf park and condo project, is facing at minimum an additional $11.6 million in construction liens as work grinds to a halt.

The surf club, just east of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, is being developed by a list of who’s who in the pro surfing and real estate community. Kelly Slater, 11-time World Surf League champion partnered with Scottsdale, Arizona-based Discovery Land Company on the project. Chase Koch, son of businessman Charles Koch, has been connected to the ownership group, as well as local tech startup figure Jasen Trautwein.

Austin Surf Club Venture LP, the controlling entity, raised around $66 million from investors, according to the Austin Business Journal. The leadership group acknowledged that construction on the site was paused in April. In the same month, they were hit with $4.6 million in liens for work done in 2025 and 2026, according to the outlet. The latest round of liens brings the total north of $16 million.

The development is marketed as a mixed-use lifestyle residential community, complete with a 2,200-foot-long surf basin and 178 private residences. It’s being built at the former site of NLand Surf Park, which shut down in 2018.

Small world...Was that Jon Hilsabek (Associate Administrator) or Paul Thomas (Assistant Administrator)? I believe Sister Damian was the CEO at the time.

Endeavor to break ground on downtown Austin-adjacent office building that will house its HQ

Quote:
Endeavor Real Estate Group will soon break ground on its new headquarters, a 198,000-square-foot office and retail building on the western edge of downtown Austin.

Austin-based Endeavor’s 5th & Walsh project has been in the works since at least March 2022, when the developer initially submitted a site plan application for the project to the city of Austin. Now Endeavor has announced that it will imminently break ground on the new development.

5th & Walsh will stand five stories atop 1.4 acres. Of the project’s 198,000 total square feet, 21,000 will be ground floor restaurant and retail space, and the upper four floors will be office space. There will also be a below-grade parking garage that will serve both the retail parking needs and provide three parking spots per 1,000 square feet of office space.

Endeavor will make 5th & Walsh its new headquarters upon the project's expected completion in late 2028, and will occupy 25,000 square feet of office space. Endeavor’s current headquarters is at downtown Austin’s 500 W. 5th St.

But Endeavor is not the only tenant at 5th & Walsh. With site work expected to begin immediately, according to an Endeavor representative, 85,000 square feet of office space is already leased by undisclosed tenants. That's in addition to the space to be occupied by Endeavor, meaning the project is more than 55% pre-leased prior to groundbreaking.

Great sign for this to start as Sixth & Blanco comes to a finish over the next 12 months. There's at least 2 more projects right around this area that would seem more likely to move quickly now, especially with that much office going up.

^^^Very cool. Wish a hotel was apart of it.

In any case, it's pretty neat that the Austin area is getting these types of residential developments that are associated with world-class hospitality brands.

-Four Seasons (near Shepherd Mountain/Pennybacker Bridge)
-Waldorf-Astoria (Fredericksburg)
-Aman (somewhere NW of Austin)
-Canyon Ranch (Spicewood)

...now Viceroy.

And, there is another landowner in Spicewood who floated a wish to partner with Faena on his ranch that is currently on the market.

Office redevelopment planned for West Sixth Street

Quote:
Austin’s office development pipeline has nearly run dry, but there appears to be more on the horizon.

Austin-based Schlosser Development Corp. is planning a mixed-use development with 60,790 square feet of office space and 7,430 square feet of restaurant space at its 1127 W. Sixth St. property, according to a rezoning application.

Little else is known about the developer’s plans other than the intention to redevelop the 0.5-acre property. But with the property not even rezoned, redevelopment could still be years away and the plans could change dramatically before construction begins.
