Mayor Bass released a statement saying "the city and developers have made commitments to doing everything possible to help get this project going, including an expeditated path to make meaningful construction progress before the 2028 Olympics".

I doubt it will be open by then but I'm sure the wrap around screen will definitely be up and running quickly since its already sitting in containers on site.

Just imagine if every new construction project received an "expedited path" through city halls BS. Downtown would be unstoppable

Very true...I've said before that Inglewood's mayor gets a lot of heat, but he fast tracks alot projects that's benefitted the Inglewood.

Super exciting milestone. Still a long ways to go, but the first time I've felt hopeful for Oceanwide in a bit!

Question for those more knowledgable than me - Given Lendlease is a partner on this sales are they coming in on the development side as well as the construction? Meaning might they be a part in helping ensure this gets financing or are they simply there to help finish construction.

I know they had planned to leave the US market, but have capabilities across investment, development and construciton and their Habitat here in West Adams is one of the better ground up constructions here in the last decade for me.

Sony Pictures is in talks to lease and reopen the long-shuttered Cinerama Dome and former Arclight Hollywood multiplex on Sunset Boulevard, it was reported today.

Sony is negotiating with Robertson Property Group to revive the historic theater complex at 6360 Sunset Blvd., which has remained closed since the COVID-19 pandemic forced the collapse of Pacific Theatres and ArcLight Cinemas in 2021, according to Deadline.

I'm pretty sure they are not bringing any financing to the table. They are only in this deal because they had a large lien on the property as the previous general contractor. I think they are staying involved in order to recover that.

So glad that the Cinerama dome is reopening but my god I HATE the Alamo Drafthouse ordering system. It's so awful. Hopefully they will decide against incorporating the ability to order their disgusting fair food slop while seated.

And back to Brentwood - the two high rises on Barrington and Wilshire and being fully reclad. For a long time they were notorious for not having sprinkles and being less than earthquake proof, but it looks like they are not only fixing that, but putting up very nice new cladding that honestly looks much better than the previous cladding.

Graffiti towers clean-up begins

Crews have started cleaning the notorious graffiti towers.

The new owners of the stalled Oceanwide project in downtown Los Angeles have agreed to start cleaning up the embarrassing splash of color on the city’s skyline even before they have finished formally acquiring it.

A Wednesday jaunt up a paint-besmirched skyscraper was a test to see how much graffiti could be removed in a day and the results were promising, said John Petty of KPC Development Co., which is set to take title of the stalled residential, hotel and retail project in a $517-million bankruptcy sale.

A condition of the sale set by the city was that the graffiti that has appalled and amused millions of passersby for more than two years would be removed immediately, even though the sale might not officially close for six months.

After the test run, Petty concluded that it will take less than 90 days to clean the three skyscrapers that stick out on the city skyline over Crypto.com Arena and the Harbor Freeway. Petty will put the winning bidder among competing graffiti removers to work within two weeks, he said.

For sure! They said they are making a coffee table book of the tagging as well.

Drove by yesterday and its crazy how much was cleaned up in one day. Bottom 10 floors of the big tower already cleaned.

So does that mean they scrapped the idea to cut some units in half ? i remember hearing that somewhere....Where they wanted to make some units smaller to turn them into rental units while keeping some as condos ? Either way im happy its getting done. The amount of foot traffic is going to be awesome for the area.

Anyone feel that LA has started to bottom out a little bit? At least where Im at, vacant storefronts are finally getting leased, I'm seeing more people on the streets than I have in years since the pandemic. Many shuttered theaters like Cinerama Dome are being reopened, abandoned projects like Oceanwide Plaza are finally moving along. Economically, the region is benefitting from a booming aerospace/defense sector with billions of dollars of announced factory investments across LA and SoCal this year alone, and even Hollywood seems to be bottoming out a bit.

Homelessness remains a sig ificant issue with no end in sight though, and DTLAs recovery is uneven, albeit slowly pressing along.

A two-story commercial building near the E Line in Downtown Santa Monica is slated to give way to housing, according to a preliminary application recently filed with the City's Community Development Department.

Kenney Wilson, the owner of the property at 700 Colorado Avenue, would clear the existing, windowless two-story structure to make way for a new eight-story building featuring 133 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments with 137 parking spaces in a three-level subterranean garage.

In exchange for density bonus incentives permitting a larger structure than otherwise allowed by zoning, Kenney Wilson would provide 15 units of moderate-, low-, and very low-income housing within the project.

Yes, I've had the same thoughts lately. Some positive momentum with major projects opening soon / just opened (LAX, Lucas, LACMA, space shuttle, D line, etc), Oceanwide moving forward, Rams village, bunch of apartment construction all over. Generally positive other than homeless and beautification

I think the independent cities in LA are doing well. Culver City is thriving. Santa Monica has lots of construction though is dealing with a commercial vacancy problem. West Hollywood is positioning itself well. Beverly Hills is Beverly Hills. I'm not sure Los Angeles proper is in a great state though. There has been such an increase in homeless where I live (Los Feliz) that it boggles the mind. Sometimes feels that half the people I see walking (or stumbling as it were) down the street are visibly mentally ill homeless. And I live in a nice area!

I feel like there is a change and the recovery is starting to show. I definitely feel like public transportation feels much safer. I had to go to one of our offices in downtown LA on Tuesday from the valley. Not one incident, on the trip there and back home. No loud music, no smelly bus, or trains, and there was police presence everywhere in the stations. I was even provided help at the bus station from the ambassadors they were actually cleaning up.

Downtown LA of course still have a lot of homeless, but I didn’t smell piss like I normally and the sidewalks were spotless. This was in the historic core I was working in the state building at 4th and Broadway. I went to lunch on fifth and Main and I walked to this Japanese restaurant. Yes there were homeless but also tourists and people who lived in the area walking dogs.

We were out and about in LA on Saturday and we were in the Wilshire District near La Brea and the LACMA museum. We end up going through Hollywood and Culver City and both areas were full of people. My son made a comment that there was a party going on because he’s seen so many people out in goodthe streets. We headed downtown LA last night and there were people everywhere. There were some sort of event going on at Pershing Square so they had all the streets closed off and there was people walking everywhere. We also went to the artist district and there was a lot of activity going on over there as well lots of restaurants and club open, oh and Little Tokyo was quite busy as well. It could’ve been too because it was warmer than normal at night and people wanted to be outside. it was just a nice vibe that I haven’t seen in LA since the pandemic ended.

That's strange because I just read an article in the LA Times that in Nithya Raman's district, which includes Los Feliz, the homeless count is half of what it was last year (whereas LA as a whole has gotten slightly worse).
