We have university/college-based incubation hubs providing VLSI incubation facilities like MUTBI, NITK-STEP, NMAMIT-IIC, MITE, SCEM-SHINE, SJEC-IC. Even Mangalore University's AI Centre for Excellence will be having chip design capabilities - ಮಂಗಳೂರು ವಿ.ವಿ.ಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಐ ಲ್ಯಾಬ್! - ರಾಜ್ಯದ ವಿ.ವಿ.ಗಳಲ್ಲೇ ಮೊದಲ ಯೋಜನೆಗೆ ಚಾಲನೆ, ವರ್ಷದೊಳಗೆ ಪೂರ್ಣ. Other than these we have also independent incubation hubs like Manipal Dot Net, K-tech providing VLSI chip design capabilities. Not sure whether VTU Extension Centre at AJIET (as such VTU doesn't have a lab in Mangaluru) or K-Combinator Startup Accelerator at wrkwrk is having VLSI design facilities. Also not sure how many from the above are or will be having physical VLSI chip fabrication (foundries) & packaging (assembly) facilities.

NIT-K proposes Research, Innovation, and Technology Enterprise Park on campus

The National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NIT-K), Surathkal, has proposed setting up a research, innovation, and technology enterprise (RITE) park on its campus, its Director B. Ravi said on Friday.
Speaking at the Silicon Beach Dialogue Series, organised by Silicon Beach Program, an initiative aimed at transforming coastal Karnataka into a major technology and innovation hub, the director said the park had been proposed on 1.5 lakh sq. ft. at a cost of ₹440 crore.
Meanwhile, the proceedings of the 66th meeting of the Finance Committee of NIT-K held on April 6, 2026, stated: “The committee resolved to direct the institute to review its lease deed with NITK-Science, Technology and Entrepreneur’s Park (STEP) Society and amend the deed, with the consent of the STEP board, to enable repossessing of the land for RITE Park and other purposes of the institute.”
NIT-K had leased 20 acres of land on the western side of the campus to NITK-STEP in 1994 for 50 years to establish STEP, which was registered as a society. So far, less than five acres have been utilised for STEP, it said.

Where is 1000 acres land? What happened to NITK second campus proposal?
What about Adani University planned as a part of 500 acres Aerocity in the vacant land belonging to MIA? My advice to Adani Group is to have a mega Business Park as a part of Aerocity & shift Adani University to Universtiy Township if it materializes.
Hope the township will have an Energy Transition & Climate Action University, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning University, a Data Science & Business Analytics University, a Quantum Computing University, a FinTech & Blockchain University, a Cybersecurity & Cloud Computing University, a Logistics & Supply Chain Management University, a Robotics & Automation University, a Healthcare & Life Sciences University, Biotechnology & Bioinformatics University, a Law & Public Policy University, a Tourism & Hospitality University, a Film, Media and Creative Arts University. Maritime University is not included as it is planned in the port land.
Anyway, a much detailed summary of educational institutes need in Tulunadu is already listed in the link below. It doesn't matter whether they are government or private or even international/foreign institutes/universities.

In addition, we can use exoskeletons to enhance special effects. For example, Ravana can have 10 performing heads or Goddess Durga can have 10 hands with various weapons & symbols. This has to be done in collaboration with Robotics/Mechatronics & Automation University. But currently I think St Aloysius Deemed University with departments on Information Science, Robotics & AI, Media Studies and Yakshagana Training through Ranga Adhyana Kendra is most suitable candidate to conduct research on Yakshagana Informatics & Automation by having a dedicated center for excellence. If we don't do it then Germans may do it - History Made! Yakshagana Performed in German for the First Time | Yakshagana in Europe.

So, Quad AI, opening from July or August 2026, will be one more specialized college offering exclusive degrees in AI including B.Tech CSE (AI & ML), PGP in Management (AI Integrated), BCA (AI Integrated). This AI trend is happening after Mangaluru is identified for Data Centre Hub. Recently WIPRO also partenered with MITE for AI Center of Excellence. Mangaluru |University also got AI Center of Excellence funded through Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA). And Mangaluru is one of five locations identified for AI University campus by Karnataka Government.

I think we already have good labs of BioTech. Since we want to develop our region as Energy Transition & Climate Action Hub we should have at least two colleges having 'Center for Excellence on Reimagined Energy & Materials'. Also need two 'Centers for Excellence on Connectivity & Immersive Tech' domain out of which one is 'Center for Excellence on Yakshagana Informatics & Automation'. There was already a proposal to have Center for Excellence on Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) 1 2 but the dream didn't fruitify so far.
Even old proposals for IT, Fintech & Cybersecurity CoEs didn't materialize so far. We don't even know fates of recently proposed CoEs like mariculture and biotechnology hub at the College of Fisheries, and a logistics and supply chain facility at KPT.
