Didn’t know Montreal’s brick walk-ups could be mansard hybrids:

I dunno, but I am quite certain that Billy Batts is buried in the basement.

Did they just slap some shipping containers together?

Worse than that, I suspect there's brick underneath that corrugated sheet metal. I never understood this practice. Calgary is full of examples of historic brick buildings that were covered in cheap brown painted metal sheeting later on and left to crumble.

From Calgary:

Mansardland:

Don't mind the shitter or the suspicious plywood crate on palettes. This is an actual rental listing photo:

This company actually used WickerMansardMan house in an ad:

What fucking universe are we living in where this home is worth anything north of $100K?!? I know Calgary's become unaffordable, but holy shit this is next level!

Some more eccentric homes from the inner city:

The infamous pink stucco "Parthenon" which I watched get built in my childhood has finally been renovated to flip, with questionable results:

Student res building that gives Kitchener / Waterloo a run for their money:

It's an aesthetic accessory.

It's very strange how the shingled "lintels" are on the bottom of the windows. Was it done because there wasn't enough space between the roof and the top of the window? Speaking of which, are those windows placed 5 feet above the floor, or is the ceiling in those rooms like a crawl space? It's so strange I want to see the inside. There are some horror movie spaces in many of these units on rentfaster in Calgary's Dover neighbourhood.

For instance, the house with the toilet on the back concrete pad is listed as "fully renovated".

The front yard features this nice, dirt landscaping, a bench and a garbage can.

Then we enter the "luxury" marble countertop kitchen:

Basement "killroom" has been nicely cleaned up.

Check out the amenities!

The view of the backyard toilet is beautifully framed by this sagging, bare plywood canopy to cheer up your living space:

Here it is from outside:

And I guess this is the new toilet that replaced the spare sitting outside on the back concrete pad / "yard":

This can all be yours for an affordable $2000 / mth!

It'd be great if that was a working toilet. Open plan.

Objectively, there are much worse-looking homes (e.g., the crack shacks) in the shots posted by Otac, but there is just something that I really dislike about this sort of Mansard-roofed house. I am not sure what that is; I just know that it brings on a feeling of revulsion.

Yes they are like bowl haircuts or goombas.

The materials are a 70’s mashup that have very depressing associations to growing up in the 80’s. I can almost smell these homes from pictures. I bet many still have creosote soaked wood retaining walls in the yard that make you dizzy on a hot day.

That “fog” appears in all the pictures so the entire house must be flooded with nauseous gases. That or the “handyman” responsible for this “fully renovated” home has the same aptitude for taking photos as he does “fixing things” with what must be decrepit sausage fingers.

I know that whoever lives here listens to Kid Rock and Ted Nugent, and probably wants Alberta to separate.
