- CBRM incorporates all of the former Cape Breton County.

Wouldn't it follow that the "City of Truro" (Colchester Regional Municipality) encompass all of the former Colchester County???

If only the CA was incorporated into a "City of Truro", this would be setting a precedent for the province. Would the rump portion of Colchester County have the resources and finances necessary for self governance???

For Census purposes Colchester County is subdivided into six areas;

Subd A (Fundy Shore) - 3'700
Subd B (Bible Hill - Debert - Tata) - 19'800
Subd C (South of Truro & Stewiacke Valley) - 12'400
Town of Truro - 12'900
Town of Stewiacke - 1'500
Millbrook First Nation - 900

Truro CA is Town of Truro + Millbrook + Subd B + Subd C

So if Truro CA becomes "Colchester Regional Municipality" that leaves Town of Stewiacke and Subd A as remainders. These areas don't abut each other so the most likely outcome would be separate;

Town of Stewiacke would remain as is. They may want to annex lands to the south along Trunk 2 so they directly abut Shubenacadie (East Hants).

Subd A is the big question. It is too small to survive on it's own. It would be a tough sell but I think it should be annexed by Cumberland County.

That said MonctonRad is probably right and the province would take the easy route and make the entire county a regional municipality effectively making Stewiacke and Five Islands suburbs of Truro.

Thanks for this. Myself, when i think of Truro I definitely do not think of Tata, Debert and Stewiacke all being lumped in together. Especially Tata. So that was a surprise.

It’s interesting that just the town of Truro itself is larger than the 3 smallest cities in NB. It really should be a city especially when you encompass Bible Hill and Millbrook areas.

Indeed. A town of 50K already sounds weird. That’s the same size as North Bay, a city in Northern Ontario.
In the hypothetical case that it surpasses 100K, it definitely shouldn’t be a town anymore.

^Ontario still wins the largest town competition though. The Town of Oakville has over 200'000 people!

As for Truro if the area isn't made a regional municipality, Bible Hill should definitely be made a town. It's over 5'000 people which is about the size of Wolfville.

The Stanfield's project is quite cool. I'm excited to see how that will turn out. While we wait for that to proceed Truro does have a few mid-rises under construction in the downtown area.

I am optimistic about Truro's future potential and future growth. It is the hub of Nova Scotia, and conveniently located to both Halifax and Moncton.

If there were ever to be a third NS based QMJHL team, I could see it going to Truro.

An exciting new proposal has been put forth for the Stanfield’s factory in Truro. This would include residential and commercial and a river-side “waterfront” area. The residential buildings appear to be up to 11 stories!

I went through Truro over the weekend. I have photos of STATION 85, VICTORIA SUITES II, 74 LORNE STREET and this one in the southern end of town across from The Railyard on Young Street. It's called THE SLOANE and will feature three multi-unit buildings and townhouses of ~160 units total. Clicking on the photo will take you to my "Truro" tagged photos.

There are two more major new developments planned for Truro;

Town of Truro - Development Applications & Site Plan Approvals

423 ROBIE STREET - The applicant has submitted preliminary plans for a residential
development consisting of four 5-storey multi-unit buildings containing approximately 355 dwelling units in total. The proposal features four segmented multi unit buildings that
occupy most of the length of the lot. Surface parking for the proposed development is found alongside the multi-unit buildings. The proposed main access point for the site is off of Marshland Drive through a two way boulevard.

15 SALTER AVENUE - The applicant has submitted preliminary plans for a multi-unit residential development consisting of three separate buildings; one building on Salter Avenue, one oriented to Wynn Road/Lower Truro Road, and a third oriented to the intersection of Lower Truro Road and McClures Mills Road. The building fronting on Salter Avenue (Building 1) is a rectangular 2-storey building with 8 units. The building fronting on Wynn Road (Building 2) is an irregular shaped structure (rectangular with a chamfered corner) that is 5-storeys tall with 39 dwelling units. The building oriented to the intersection of Lower Truro Road and McClures Mills Road is a 9-storey “L” shaped, building with 108 dwelling units
