There are 3 OHL teams in the GTA vs one in Montreal, and all 3 outdraw or match the Armada for crowds.

Montreal is a Habs city. Toronto is a hockey city.

I think hockey is a bigger part of the culture in Winnipeg and Montreal than it is in Toronto. The GTA might have produced a large number of NHLers, but is hockey really a big part of the average Torontonian’s life?

I must say tho, Toronto does have an impressive list of over 50 public outdoor hockey rinks with boards and artificial refrigeration. Saint John doesn’t have a single one with boards left standing, we’re around 1/47th the size of Toronto. No wonder Saint John hasn’t produced any NHLers in recent years.

Ice hockey is still Canada’s national pastime… there shouldn’t be a single CMA in Canada without publicly accessible outdoor hockey rinks for people to use each winter. If the PM actually delivers on his promise to establish 15 new national urban parks across the country, I think every park should have ice hockey and lacrosse facilities within their borders, since those are are two national sports.
