There will probably be more people transferring between trains than entering/exiting the station itself, so it's warranted to have capacity between platforms than out of the station... that being said a large portion of people that will be doing the transfer are already using the smaller Canada line escalators/stairs.

That and transfers between trains come in large clumps as oppose to entering the station.
