Are the Critical Mess malcontents back on city streets? On Friday there was a sad ragtag band of cyclists hogging both lanes of traffic on South Granville.

For future reference, it's always on the last Friday of the month. That is an impressive amount of negativity compressed into 27 words.

Tourist in critical condition after collision with cyclist in Vancouver, police say

Police in Vancouver are investigating after a cyclist reportedly struck two tourists in a downtown crosswalk, leaving one man with critical injuries.

The collision occurred at around 5:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of West Cordova and Richards streets.

Police say a married couple visiting from the United States was crossing West Cordova Street in the marked crosswalk and reportedly had the right of way when they were struck by the cyclist travelling east on Cordova Street.

One of the pedestrians, a 72-year-old man, was knocked unconscious in the collision and was transported to Vancouver General Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery, the Vancouver Police Department said in a statement.

He remains in stable but critical condition, police said Tuesday. His wife was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

The cyclist was not hurt and remained at the scene following the collision.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
