I wasn't really a full "community meeting", but more of a neighborhood association meeting. 25-30 people. The developers weren't in attendance.

The alderman did attend.

Commonwealth Plaza has "concerns", but there were several (younger) individuals that pushed back.

I'd suggest sending a positive comment to the alderman's office.

The building has fantastic bones. The timber support beams alone are incredible. We literally do not have remaining hardwood forests that are mature enough to recreate those anymore. I am glad that they are going to save those, along with the bricks and other architectural motifs. Still, its incredibly sad we demolish the sort of history other cities would kill for.
Seems like the building is doing the demo itself. Hope nobody was in there. The hole has been growing. I can't find anything in the news about it.

Does anyone know how many cranes are up in Chicago? It seems to be increasing as of late. I could be totally wrong, but seems as high as 10 at this point.

Not sure for the current number of cranes, but this definitely captures a lot of groundwork being laid for new upcoming projects so we should have some more going up soon

Some more photos of the permits hung on the fence, including details like a map of the well sites

Has anyone checked on that one development in motor row? I haven't seen any pictures of it under construction I don't think. Just realized this wasn't the right thread though. Oops.

I walked by a few weeks ago but apparently didn’t take any photos. I’m gone this week on a business trip but will stop by to take photos likely sometime next weekend

When you walked by, did it give off "we have secured financing" vibes?

It’s 2222 S Michigan you’re talking about, right? If I recall correctly, the facade was behind scaffolding, but that was like 2 or 3 weeks ago and I could be misremembering. Checking google maps, it seems like the facade has been behind scaffolding since at least 2021, but I couldn’t tell you if the scaffolding has changed or what is going on behind that scaffolding

No entirely about high-rises, but God would Grant Park be miles better if it didn't have so many roads that cut through it I'll probably be dead before we get a mayor that makes it more pedestrian friendly and removes some of them.

Sounds over-parked, but I'll take it.

Need to make something out of Hutchison and Butler Field (I prefer a naturalistic pond and faux forest for Hutchison, and an English or French garden for Butler).

Remove the north and south ends of Soldier Field and make it a more open fairgrounds to host fairs, concerts, and rallies. A bit like Milwaukee's fairgrounds, only less pavement.

We easily could (and should) remove most E-W streets (monroe, jackson, balbo) without disrupting traffic too badly. The real issue is Columbus Drive. Its such a huge traffic distributor between 290 and Streeterville, it might be near impossible to remove it.
