Notice the beehive kilns in the fourth photo taken outdoors. Wallace China is especially “noirish” in that it turns up in scenes from movies of that genre right into the 1970’s remake era. If anyone can find aerials of the Wallace plant on Soto please post them. Shenango got control and closed the facilities during the early 1960’s, ending a history that went all the way back to Poxon’s arrival in SoCal to help build a tile factory for a member of the British Wade family which he was related to. A specialist in glaze chemistry, Mr. Poxon is thought to have been linked to the original Catalina Island pottery as well as Poxon China, the Furlong-Poxon plant (which became Vernon Kilns), and Wallace China’s early years. (His influence in California wares cannot be easily captured.)
This is 5500 S Soto Street in 1971, seven years after the factory closed, but it's virtually identical to the aerials back to 1948. I'm not sure that it matches the images above which appear to include a circular structure.
