The title is misleading, it's about Quebec.

I've always thought that Newfoundland's English population is genetically more "English" than modern day England (but I'm not sure if its Irish population is more Irish than modern Ireland), and Quebec is more genetically French than France. When I look at my own English descended ancestry map of North America (where relatives have migrated to all corners of the US & Canada over decades and even centuries), Quebec stands out starkly as an area where I don't have cousins.

It's interesting but not really a shocker if you know very basic Canadian history, though maybe that's becoming rare these days. Canada is essentially what once was the French part of North America. Even Newfoundland was French at one point. Nova Scotia was majority French speaking until the 1750s. The genetic footprint of these French settlers is larger than just Francophones today. There are likely significant French genetics in places like Alberta due to waves of migration from the east. Linguistic assimilation covers that up.

Yes, I think it might change, I'll bet we all know French Canadians who married Anglos, or do we? So, it's not only the language barrier, it's also religion, so in the US you will find lots of Irish-Italian combinations for instance. But now, the RC church has much less influence in Quebec, so marrying outside of it isn't such a prohibition.

Here is the ancestry map which I mentioned. I have cousins all over the continent, but not in Quebec (well maybe 2, or is that Labrador?). PS - Zooming in finds 5.

A bit more Catholic blood (in my case, Acadian) and you get a pretty big spread:

I think it can go as high as 8th cousins, but it's less likely to be a match. We are on average supposed to have about 1,000 fourth cousins alone, of course only a fraction of them would be on the database. You may have more since they are Catholic. In my case I have to go back to around the 1890s to find large families. The DNA matching can count even more distant relations especially if there is more than one connection, which is actually common if you go back to that level.

I don't know if this would be fun—a new attraction at Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver, recently opened.

This is an older one at Cypress and looks a little scarier.

Crave and Seth Rogan are remaking The Littlest Hobo

Considering the show's legacy (especially with GenX) I'm surprised the remake attempts didn't come sooner. The idea itself is sound for any generation, but the idea still gives me a shiver of dread, just from the cringe-risk.

That Seth Rogan's involved is a little bit concerning, but not as much as you might expect. He's of the Hobo generation, so he should know the show, and might be able to get the right degree of campiness for it in general.

Of course, whoever remixes the theme song is going to be raked over the coals no matter what. Hopefully they do a good job like the modernized Duck Tales show theme was.

Toronto based Rogers eliminates the only all sports and all news radio stations in Vancouver.
Vancouver is now the largest market in North America without its own sports or news station.

Good thing you can still listen to the LA stations for all your "local" news.
