MILWAUKEE: I'll take the 1 liter stein please...

Video Link

Having been to Milwaukee twice before in the last three years (threads here and here), I knew what to expect. However, I was yet again surprised just how livable and comfortable this city actually is. For those of us in the West, Milwaukee isn’t even an afterthought. I think most people don’t even consider it at all if you were to ask them to name the major cities of the Midwest.

Nonetheless, my stepdaughter and her now fiancé have lived there the past two years while she pursued her masters degree at UW-Milwaukee. After growing up in Southern California and only living there, Seattle, and Ireland, they absolutely fell in love with it.

I attended her graduation over the weekend and treated to great weather, excellent beer, and a great time. Next up for them is a doctoral program at UH-Manoa so this might be the last time I venture to Milwaukee unless for some specific reason.

As always, I share photos…

The Milwaukee Mile and UW Hospital

Miller Park (whatever it’s called, it’s a great stadium for baseball) and the Miller Brewing Company

Far fewer surface lots than you might expect. Much of downtown Milwaukee feels fairly intact.

I highly recommend kayaking the river if you get a chance.

Shorewood, UW-Milwaukee, and the Murray Hill neighborhoods (where my step daughter lives) just north of downtown

Where I’m standing once upon a time used to be the Park East Freeway. It doesn’t appear to have destroyed the city by removing it

As an architect, I know that we often don’t have much of a sense of humor about buildings, but this new museum under construction definitely looks like stacks of wet toilet paper rolls…

Over 30 years ago I got offered a substantial scholarship to attend architecture school at MSOE, but I had never been there and was so intent on leaving the Midwest I chose otherwise. An interesting thread to think about…

Nice pictures! I have only been in Milwaukee once, at this time of year 7 years ago, but it was a good time and I enjoyed the city.

I recognize Old World 3rd Street and the Hofbrauhaus!

Like the photos from the air and it's always nice to capture buildings on a misty night.

The more I see of Milwaukee on the forum the more I like it. And most travel Youtubers seem to really enjoy the city as well. Thanks for the photo tour, and congrats to your stepdaughter
