Interesting, they're still wasting most of their frontage on the park with a giant auto ramp but they are doing a dedicated entrance to the skybar that will be accessed from the park side. So at least it will have something to add some activity.

Long-awaited 9th Ward stadium set to break ground as sponsors secure naming rights
The long-awaited football stadium set to open next year in New Orleans’ 9th Ward finally has a name: Raising Cane’s 9th Ward Stadium at LCMC Health Field.

Pending approval from the Orleans Parish School Board, which will consider the matter at a meeting Thursday, Raising Cane’s will donate $2 million and LCMC Health will donate $600,000 to the project in exchange for the naming rights. The project is expected to break ground this summer.

As eyesore projects push forward in New Orleans, what's going on with Plaza Tower downtown?

NEW ORLEANS — Funding challenges are threatening plans to convert the long-vacant Plaza Tower into affordable housing for seniors.

According to reporting from NOLA.com, developer Lincoln Avenue Capital is working to assemble a financing package worth more than $300 million for the project.

The company's proposal calls for stabilizing the 45-story Plaza Tower on Howard Avenue and converting it into 325 subsidized apartments for low-income seniors.

Lincoln Avenue's due diligence period, which allows the company to conduct inspections and analyze the building, is set to expire at the end of this month. Company leaders say they plan to seek an extension from the property's owner.

Officials with the administration of Helena Moreno have been working with the developer and its local partners to identify ways to make the project financially feasible.

The redevelopment proposal would bring new life to one of New Orleans' most recognizable vacant buildings, but securing the necessary funding remains a major hurdle

Poor Plaza can never catch a break ; hopefully a group of investors or a private equity firm can kickstart development.

Welp - who didn’t see this coming … at this point they might as well finish clearing the site and seek a new developer. https://www.nola.com/news/politics/new-o...2be-c6e7-4dbb-8fe2-169340b1e141.amp.html

Seems pretty clear that there is not the state/federal support or investor interest in large scale projects in New Orleans right now.

The following are on hold or under threat of hold:
  • Charity Hospital
  • Bayou Phoenix
  • Plaza Tower
  • Omni Convention Center Hotel
  • Market Street Power Plant
  • River District

I'd imagine this will also impact the replacement of Lindy Boggs after it's demolished this year.

That being said, we still have some good stuff in motion:
  • Bywater NSA Redevelopment
  • AC Hotel Convention Center
  • Individual River District Parcels
  • St. Charles Ave Hotels
  • Xavier Dorms

Lafayette developers Sam Mohd and Rohan Dawra said this week they'll soon begin taking reservations for Vcay Suites, which is geared towards travelers seeking multi-bedroom units for group trips, pending final city inspections and permitting expected next month.

Great to see the old Archdiocese building back in commerce. I thought construction and renovation had stalled.

The Marriott Elemement opened earlier this year. I think construction should wrap up soon on the Fairmont portion of the building and that would complete everything. Probably next 4-8 weeks based on the look of things from the outside.

Tulane announces deal to take over transformation of Charity Hospital building

Tulane University is taking over the long-stalled effort to turn the former Charity Hospital in downtown New Orleans into a hub of education, medical research and apartments, university officials said Tuesday, a key milestone in an ambitious redevelopment project that has bedeviled city leaders for nearly two decades.

Under an agreement between Tulane and 1532 Tulane Holdco, the consortium selected in 2018 to oversee the $300 million project, Tulane will be responsible for restoring the 90-year-old former hospital and turning roughly two-thirds of it into the new home of the Tulane Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and the Tulane Innovation Institute.

1532 Tulane Holdco will convert one-third of the structure into apartments that will likely serve the Tulane and broader biomedical communities.

The deal, which is being finalized, needs to clear several hurdles. And while it could fall through, it offers the best hope in years that the hulking former hospital on Tulane Avenue that never reopened after Hurricane Katrina may see life again.

They posted a slick-looking video about it on socials: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZ8Avr7BjrB. There are some good shots of the planned streetscape there, including added pedestrian crossings and tons of landscaping on the street and on buildings/rooftops just off the street. Sounds like they're close enough to a deal but still need some public support so they're putting a little pressure on powers that be. Seems like an exciting project if it gets off the ground.

Hope this gets the project moving, would love to see it happen.

Still think there are many hurdles and Tulane doesn't have the needed funding, will need public / state funds which will be a hard sell.

Very exciting news; Tulane is the only one who can save this project. I believe they’ll find a way to get it done with the capital and connections they have.
