I see that the Chapters at Regent Mall in Fredericton is being rebranded to Indigo.

I think this leaves the Chapters in Dieppe as the only store in the region that has not yet transitioned. I wonder how much longer it will remain a Chapters???

110% agree with David_99 latest comments.

Re: Home Depot, is a big supporter of MAGA and HIM, we should support Canadian chains like Kent & Home Hardware, which are 110% Canadian. Rona is US Owned as well. I've haven't entered in a Home Depot in over 2 years.
Re: Tims, I mostly have great experience at Tims as well, and I know staff who works at Tims where I go and most are friendly & cordial. They try hard.

There are "closing sale" signs up at one of the entrances into the Mapleton centre for Ocean Trail Source for Adventure.

I suspect they could not compete in a crowded marketplace with MEC and Bass Pro.

I suspect this space will not go empty. Ocean Trail is affiliated with Cleve's Source for Sports next door, and these two stores are internally connected. I imagine that Cleves's will just expand into the Ocean Trail space, but, I do not know this for a fact. Just speculation.

They have finally begun construction in the Moncton Hospital lobby for Second Cup and Freshii.

It doesn't really matter to me any more. I will be retired in a little over four weeks.

The old nurses alumni cafeteria in the lobby has been closed for at least six years, and the Tim Horton's closed about two years ago. As always, any renovation or construction project at the hospital moves at a glacial pace.

Purdys is also opening 2 other locations in Atlantic Canada. A pop up at Mic Mac Mall and a pop up at Halifax Shopping Centre with a permanent location opening in early 2027.

They mentioned they are starting with 4 locations but have already scouted out more locations in Atlantic Canada to open after these initial stores.

Good news.

I wonder what this means for Laura Secord? That brand is old. somewhat ossified and in desperate need for a refresh. I can't see them both surviving at Champlain Place.......

Somehow Laura and Rocky Mountain survived in Regent for a long time, until Laura was booted. Assumably Purdys and Rocky Mountain will similarly survive.

Laura's chances in Champlain aren't great admittedly, but I wouldn't say it's impossible for both to survive.

Renovation of the Moncton West Walmart on Plaza Blvd will apparently begin next week.

This will be a major forklift upgrade.

My source tells me that the Moncton West Walmart upgrade will include:

- new floor surface (polished concrete rather than tile, the tile was difficult to maintain).
- Completely refreshed paint job inside and out.
- removal of the secondary outside entrance for the grocery department.
- all departments will be relocated (except for grocery).

The fun starts tomorrow.

Walmart is still mulling over the possibility of a third store in southeastern NB.

Judging from the colour that they've painted the hoarding they are using at the former Body Shop location at Champlain Place, the new tenant will be Purdy's Chocolates..

It makes you wonder if Body Shop was not purposefully bumped to make way for Purdy's.

There is apparently some work going on inside the recently vacated Bootlegger location next to Jump+ in Champlain Place. This is very likely for the recently announced Miniso store.

Mind Games has new job adverts online for Champlain Place. They recently posted adverts for Regent Mall in Fredericton too. https://www.mindgames.ca/careers/

So, a mere three weeks after I was busily grousing that Champlain Place was falling behind Regent and even McAllister Place in attracting new replacement retailers for the mall, we have discovered there are three new retailers on the way.

- Miniso
- Purdy's Chocolatiers
- Mind Games

All good quality retailers. They will bring variety to a mall dominated by soap and fragrance retailers, shoe stores and women's apparel merchants.

I remain concerned that we still don't have a permanent replacement retailer for the Shoppers space, and the recently vacated Eddie Bauer leaves a major hole in the mall. There are also about a half dozen other smaller CRUs that are chronically empty, so there are still things to be concerned about, but, progress is being made.

To be fair, I believe those three retailers have announced or indicated they are going to all 3 cities in the province. (Or at least to Regent and Champlain), so it isn't exactly a plus for Champlain place in general. The problems you noted before are still there and probably need to be addressed. Champlain is the type of place that should be getting first to market (or at least first to NB market) shops, maybe second to market after Halifax locations.

Getting places that Regent is also getting is basically a weaker participation trophy success basically.
