New Alaska Flight

Alaska just announced a nonstop from PDX to Wenatchee.
They also announced a nonstop from SEA to Rome.
Seattle gets Rome, Portland gets Wenatchee lol.

Is there still a plan to build a freeway style overpass at 82nd Ave?

I haven’t heard anything different, but not sure when it’s supposed to start.

Re: Wenatchee, it may not be a real exciting addition but the more local connections PDX has, the more impetus to add international routes as the feed on this end expands - and it’s nice this is a daily flight from the start.

Seattle is not Atlanta and their airport can only handle so much traffic. Alaska Air has said so much with their shifting some flights to Portland. In a perfect world, I'd like to see Alaka focus Seattle on international flights to one half of the world, and Portland to the other half. Of course an under one hour electrified high speed rail between the two airports would be built as well. A girl can dream, right?

I’m not tracking this. I wonder how that would work. Between rails and other airport related facilities/hotels that’s a congested area.

Such a busy traffic area. What with the rideshare waiting lot there and all.

Found it:

That should help quite a bit.

Pizza cones and Bloody Marys? A swanky new cocktail lounge is coming to the Portland airport

At Portland International Airport, there’s no reason not to arrive for your flight early.

You can easily blow a couple spare hours paging through the perfect plane read or stocking up on Portland-centric souvenirs. Hungry? The airport is a treasure trove of delicious dining options, from sit-down restaurants to bakeries, coffee shops and pizzerias.

The main terminal is already home to Loyal Legion Beer Hall, where flyers can gulp down a pint while watching planes take off. But come this summer, PDX will introduce another vibey, boozy cocktail lounge tucked away behind security.

Straightaway Cocktails — which launched its Southeast Portland distillery and tasting room eight years ago — has operated a small kiosk at PDX since 2024.

So cool they’re expanding into an actual lounge, that’ll be a stop for sure on the way to the gate.

This Portland airport lounge is among the best in the world — and it’s open to all travelers, for a price

Portland International Airport is no stranger to international honors.

From its spectacular wood-beamed ceilings and forested main terminal to its ever-growing array of dining and retail options, there’s no shortage of award-worthy elements at PDX. But what about — a certain subset of travelers may ask — its lounges?

One of the world’s leading airport experiences programs on Tuesday announced the winners for two categories of its Priority Pass Excellence Awards 2026 — and Portland received a prestigious title.

Escape Lounges, which debuted at PDX just over a year ago, was named Priority Pass’ Global Lounge of the Year, beating out regional winners in Japan, Austria, Jamaica and South Africa.

It’s also the Portland airport’s first common-use lounge — meaning it’s open to all passengers regardless of airline, frequent flyer status or credit card. Entrance fees are $40 per person when booked online in advance or $45 at the door, and travelers under 2 years old get in for free.

Complimentary lounge access is available to American Express Platinum Card Members, Priority Pass card holders and Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card Members booked on Delta flights.

I generally come in here with admittedly undercooked takes and sometimes am pretty far out of my depth- but, among other careers in design and as a touring musician, I also paint- and one of my large 'pile' paintings is what greets you in the Escape Lounge as you walk in. Pretty fun to get dm's both praising and denouncing the work as 'naive'. If you get a chance to go to this Escape Lounge, it's well adorned but a bit unfocused in its color usage and visual hierarchy, but the fact that it's not overly expensive and is agnostic of airline affiliation is pretty cool.

Developers plan $130M industrial project at Portland Airport property

Portland developers plan to build industrial and office space on land at Portland International Airport and are asking the Port of Portland for a lease for 52.7 acres.

According to the agenda for the May 13 meeting of the Port Board of Commissioners, PDX West Logistics LLC plans to build up to two buildings consisting of approximately 950,000 square feet, including 20,000-25,000 square feet of office space. It is asking the commission to approve a 50-year ground lease on land on the far northwest portion of PDX.

PDX West is a project entity formed by Portland-based Capstone Partners to develop "speculative industrial use facilities for distribution, logistics and light industrial purposes" on undeveloped land at the airport, according to meeting agenda.

Alaska Airlines set to open an $18M lounge at PDX

A new spot at Portland International Airport is part of a sweeping strategy by PDX's busiest airlines to modernize its lounge footprint.

Alaska Airlines spent $18 million to increase the square footage and seating of its current Portland Lounge, the airline said in a release. The strategy is part of Alaska's (NYSE: ALK) drive to update such spots in Portland, Seattle, San Diego and Honolulu.

The 14,000-square-foot PDX lounge features a "thoughtfully designed Pacific Northwest aesthetic, featuring an inviting fireplace and a striking wooden Mt. Hood mural by artist Ben Butler." Those occupying the 230 seats will eat "regionally inspired food, sip barista-crafted beverages or cocktails from West Coast partners" and use privacy booths situated within the naturally lit space.

Alaska is PDX's largest carrier, initiating 100-plus daily departures. It plans to launch new service this year to Everett and Pasco, in Washington state, and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. By the fall, Alaska said its service at PDX will have increased by 50% over levels posted two years ago.

I would think pictures of this club would make it easier for the port to find a credit card company to take on the project on the D-E side. Chase, Amex, Capital One, are you paying attention?

It's so funny to think that this painting was once controversial.

Quote:
One of Portland’s most controversial paintings is back at PDX

A controversial painting that once stirred “violent opposition” among the public is back on the walls at the Portland International Airport.

The piece, a large abstract mural by renowned Oregon painter Louis Bunce, has been given a prominent new location as the Port of Portland finishes up its $2.15 billion renovation project.

“It was the port’s first major commission and it’s such an important historical piece for the collection and for the history of the port and the region,” Wendy Given, art program manager for the Portland of Portland, said. “We just thought the story and the work was important to try to save.”

It’s been a much quieter event than the first time the painting was hung in the airport in the late 1950s. Back then, Bunce’s abstract work managed to stir up controversy before he made his first brushstroke.
