The Moxy Hotel

Looks like the Moxy Hotel at 45 N 5th Ave is moving forward with an approved GPLET. The project will be 6 stories with 137 rooms. Not sure if the picture below is the final design (from ADS) and not sure of construction timeline:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fywuFe-pM70 Moxy discussion is at 5:06:58.

I am not sure. It is apparently temporarily closed which is odd to me if they could work around the property. It might not be a part of the masterplan.

Hacienda Motel

The abandoned Hacienda Motel at 1742 North Oracle Road near PCC Downtown has a developer turning it into a commercial space for the gem and mineral vendors. The developer will be mostly renovating the current buildings with the exception to demolish a few unsalvageable ones.

There will be 7 total buildings being renovated. One will have some apartments and one of them will feature a large crystal structure coming out on top of the building. The color and schematics are subject to change:

The sculpture and the architecture of the building it sits on does not work...quite bad actually. The design of the sculpture itself is up for interpretation. What a waste of $$$.

Uptown (Foothills Mall)

Recent article on Arizona Daily Star shows the Uptown project rendering being much denser than what is currently on the Uptown webpage. The current development looks more like the denser rendering. Of course, the masterplan concept is subject to change since it is a 10-year project.

ADS shown rendering:

Theory Tucson

Gone are the Palm Shadows Apartments to make way for the new 19 story student housing at Speedway and Campbell. (The previous rendering was so much better!)

The KGUN 9 article stated that the project was now 9 stories and it was no longer private but U of A has swooped in and they will be actual dorms. If this is the case, I wonder how scaled down both height wise and design wise this will be.

We shall see how this goes.

No, the KGUN article clearly says 19 stories. It wont be called Theory Tucson yet and they made no mention of what the new dorm would be called.

This is the link to the article that I was referring to.

https://www.kgun9.com/news/local-news/university-of-arizona-news/land-cleared-for-19-story-ua-dorm

The link says 19 but the headline said 9, that is why thought it was changed. That doesn't surprise me when projects are scaled down in Tucson. Hopefully it remains 19 stories.

I am just thinking it's a typo. The journalist in the actual video says 19 stories as well if you watch. However, sometimes plans change and I hope it doesn't.

Mosaic Quarter

Looks like Mosaic Quarter phase one will be wrapping up to open in 2027. This construction is in conjunction with the $600M I-10 expansion from Kino to Alvernon. So, it's a busy construction zone.

-courtesy of Imaging Building Systems.

Phase one:

-Field House (Summer 2027):
"...the Field House consists of two floors which are 25% larger than a stadium football field — creating space for various athletics activities, such as basketball, pickleball and judo...".

-Ice Plex (Spring 2027)
"...the Iceplex will house three NHL-regulation ice rinks for recreational uses, local sports teams and premier tournaments..."

-3 restaurants: unknown

-Parking structure

Phase two/three:

- small overflow sportsplex
-10 restaurants
-3 hotels
-8500 Indoor stadium + additional 6,000 floor seats (total 14,500). I believe the previous plan was an 9,000 seat outdoor soccer stadium so it looks like they changed it to be an all year-round venue.

-parking structure

**Says they have to wait a year for financials before the next 2/3 phases begin.

I just absolutely HATE this city and university I’m just done at this point. What a joke! For the first time ever! The neighborhood wanted height!
