The multi-phase Woodlawn Central project and the 300-foot hotel tower slated for 6401 S. Stony Island are two that come to mind immediately. I'm sure there are others.

Didn't have a chance to snap a pic, but I saw the start of active demo on 168 N Clinton earlier today. According to this article, theres currently nothing planned to replace it, but considering its location I'm sure something will be in the works soon.
168 N Clinton is getting torn down??? That building is like a diamond in the sea of architectural sterility that is West Loop Gate
Yeah I'm pretty bummed about it too. Would've been a perfect candidate for residential conversion. Emailed Ald. Conway about it in January and he gave the usual "well there's nothing I can do."
The building has fantastic bones. The timber support beams alone are incredible. We literally do not have remaining hardwood forests that are mature enough to recreate those anymore. I am glad that they are going to save those, along with the bricks and other architectural motifs. Still, its incredibly sad we demolish the sort of history other cities would kill for.

I guess the best argument is that a teardown at 168 N Clinton creates a large 1/4 block site perfect for a new highrise. I'm sure that's the eventual plan, whether the current owner has highrise plans or they want to flip it to somebody else.
The large site might even work for a Class A office development with big floorplates. The office market is god-awful right now but even in the darkness we still have Thompson Center moving forward. The Metra access at this site for suburban commuters is top tier, and it gets a little borrowed cool factor from Fulton Market a few blocks west.

As heartbroken as I was seeing any brick building torn down (which is why it caught my attention from the Green Line) I agree that the awkward way it split the parcel is probably the reason its being taken down.
I saw somewhere in one of the articles that its currently zoned at DX7 for whatever that might be worth

The problem is that the owner of the soon-to-be torn down building has not released any information about what will replace it, so instead of a half lot and small brick building, it's just a fully vacant site now. That's a net loss.

I 100% agree. Id rather see it stay standing too, I'm just assuming that was their reasoning behind it

Did anyone attend the meeting? Hope it was mostly positive feedback for this building
