They are also doing YYC-PHX, both YYC and YEG are daily.

Here is the press release: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/2...creases-Sun-Capacity-by-Greater-Than-150

It mentions RSW increasing to 5x weekly, MIA to 4x weekly and NAS to 2x weekly, which have been posted here previously.

It also says CUN is going to 10x weekly, but I don't see it loaded yet, just daily service. Perhaps they're including the 3x weekly TS flights in that count - although they aren't bookable through Porter.

I still don't see YOW-PHX loaded either, so it indeed appears to have gotten the axe.

CUN going from 5x to 10x weekly is crazy work in the best way possible. Very sad to not see PHX and LAS but I have hope they will return eventually and hopefully with more feed to make them work next time. They should have given PHX another go though, the 3x weekly for 2 months with almost no feed on either end is not a fair shot.

Not surprised about YOW-PHX getting axed but really surprised about YEG and YYC getting PHX on top of YVR returning, which wasn't exactly stellar this past winter. I imagine the two Alberta-PHX routes will be operated by YVR crews, but could also be YYZ.

I gather YOW-PVR/TPA/MCO/FLL frequency will remain unchanged?

Last time YOW had service to AUA was back in the 90s. I still have a Citizen travel section newspaper clipping lying around somewhere with Sunquest's YOW flight offerings from back then. Was probably Royal 727s operating the charters for them.

The fact PD will be flying to PHX 5X PER DAY from cities with heavily entrenched, established competitors and don't see a viable path to fly 3-4 per week from YOW is so disappointing. Lots of elbows in this city. How great. We get YHM flights and (seemingly) lose PHX. LAX seems a pipe dream now. Unreal

They can't make (630a) YHZ-YOW-PHX-YOW-YHZ (midnight) work 3x/wk, 4 months per year? Add in YQB feed, others east of MTL. Porter should have minimal cnx PAX at YYZ to cities also served from YOW

You can choose to cling to every word PD execs say into a camera ..... just know 'well done' is better than 'well said'. PD has decided to try places like Hamilton and Edmonton vs beefing up YOW. Ottawa is a beach and leisure travel base now that gov't have tightened belt.

Kudos to them for thinking outside the boring box with AUA. Friends, fam and I will be customers on that a couple times this winter

Today’s departure count: 88 - including a Nolinor charter to EWR this morning - wonder what that's for? https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/NRL580

Sun flights count (both transborder & international): 5

Today's cancellation count (so far): 1

AF 327 on 15B today, AC 345 on 28 & AC 888 on 17. 789 service on AC 345 for the month of May drops to 2x weekly.

Tuesday was the final POP flight of the season on TS, and yesterday the final PUJ. There are still a couple more CUN flights before they wrap for the season next Monday.

YOW-CUN still don't have 10x loaded, but I don't see YVR-PHX either which the PD press indicated would be returning, so hopefully it will be added in the coming days. Maybe some schedule coordination with TS to have the second frequency operate on days that TS doesn't fly.

Between WS (5x weekly loaded so far), PD, TS and AC, there will be, on aggregate, 24x weekly flights to CUN this winter.

PVR is down from 6x weekly last winter to 2-3x this winter -- the third flight only shows ops for the two weeks over Christmas.

TPA remains steady at 4x, however MCO/FLL are loaded as daily, which would be a big reduction from the 2x daily each flew this past winter.

LIR is also 4x weekly (down from daily), though on Google Flights it starts December 18, however in the marketing email I got from PD it says flights resume Nov 1, but I don't see those loaded either directly through PD.

I'd imagine there will be more changes as we get closer though - for example there are sun departures at 1405/1420 almost every day with no clear inbound, I'd imagine the YEG/YYC morning eastbounds will shift an hour earlier, similar to this summer, which would be the inbound flights for these departures.

So overall, PD are what +12 weekly international with today’s announcement (but wasn’t NAS 2x this past winter?), -7 weekly for PVR & LIR, for a net +4 or 5 on international, but -14 on transborder. Domestic is +1 thus far on the jets and +14 to YHM but YTZ is -7 but YQG & YSB are somewhere around +12. At this point it seems like net capacity is roughly flat for this winter.

Correction: up to -14x weekly on transborder when you factor in the short-lived PHX and +1 MIA and +2 RSW.

With the arrival of May, that’ll be the end of tracking sun flights until November. Today marks the inaugural PD departures to YQG & YSB and the temporary additional capacity to YDF.

Today’s departure count: 89

Today's cancellation count (so far): 2

With AC 345 on gate 15, it marks the start of it being 5/7 days this month on 321s. The next 789 is next Monday. AF 327 on 17B.

AF is on the 77W today (as it will be a bunch over the next couple months).

With the summer schedule beginning today for AC and PD, as Dominion301 mentioned, YVR NB flights are now on the 321 rather than the 7M8 as the latter will get moved over to Rouge. The first early morning 0500 departure occured, and today only the second morning YVR flight departs at a logical 0930 before moving to the 0655 departure tomorrow. From a frequency standpoint, other than a frequency here and there on YYZ/YUL, I don't believe there are any other changes to AC's network. YYC will be on a 321 this summer, an increase in capacity from previous seasons.

As for PD, YEG is now double daily, YWG is 12x weekly (eventually will be 13x weekly), and YYT is 12x weekly for a while. Like I mentioned, YQM is 12x weekly until mid-June. YYJ returns to daily service. YYC and YVR are both 1x daily until mid-May before they see frequency increases.

For next winter, CUN is still loaded as 7x weekly, and I don't see LIR starting November 1 as the email I got yesterday indicated. Not YOW related, but their press indicated YVR-PHX will be returning and that's not loaded either.

Typo - should've said YYT and not YDF.

November 1st seems like a mighty early start date for that type of route. I'm kinda surprised PD didn't also announce twice weekly YOW-SJO to compliment LIR as WG used to fly YOW-SJO pre-pandemic.

I was wondering if LIR would just be 1-2x weekly to start, for example PVR starts Oct 31 running weekly on Saturdays until mid-December.

As for SJO, YOW-SJO is only 130nm longer than YYZ-SJO, however SJO's elevation is ~3000ft compared to LIR which is much closer to sea level. Perhaps they're already pushing the E2 to it's limits with YYZ-SJO, and the slight extra distance from YOW makes it untenable. I believe YOW-LIR is the longest route in PD's network (YOW-SJD may be the second longest once it begins).

Not sure if this has been shared before but it seems like the AA is trying to court DND for expanded operations.

I thought it had been mentioned here that they previously balked at the idea due to the RCAF needing priority.

I'm reading that and wondering what the heck American Airlines has to do with the DND lol.

They weren't cooperative when the discussion happened on where to base the tankers. And then DND decided that a billion dollars worth of infrastructure shouldn't go to a place where they don't have real control. The tankers are going to Trenton in the East. Should be noted, there's similar challenges with the Edmonton airport authority in the West.

I don't see what's changed. Nice PowerPoints don't change real would constraints. If there's one de-ice pad available and both the tanker on NORAD alert and the Air France flight need it, who gets it?

AETE is based at YOW though. And with NRC as well. Non-critical flights which aren't time sensitive can be done at YOW. But big stuff like basing AEW aircraft requires absolute priority.

I actually think it would be great to have a dedicated gate for military transport at YOW. Use their customs and immigration facilities. Better than the crap terminal in Trenton that do many from Ottawa have to drive to.

That’s a good point about SJO’s elevation. LIR is already pushing the limits of the E2’s range, whereas a 738 could handle the range with ease.

"Net capacity is flat" ... sure. Technically true but we traded Phoenix and beach and yvr frequencies for Windsor and Hamilton. Like saying Westjet is the same size as Emirates because they each have same # of aircraft.
Hard to square PD's exYOW network with the sentiment the PD exec was spewing a couple months ago. Would love to see a YOW PD YoY ASM analysis.

Not true. Even on the most penal YOWPVR segments, eating 200mph on the nose for material portions, their E2s were landing with 2,000kg+ of fuel
