While the modular idea is novel, given the current financial situation Canada finds itself in, I would rather see as much locally sourced materials/labour as is possible. Buying a substantial part of a building, pre-assembled in Poland, does not accomplish these goals.

Agreed 100%. I don’t mind modular if a production facility is created here in eastern Canada but importing the modules from Poland is a big no from me.

I drove through Shannon Park yesterday. Still not much going on... a single machine and painted stakes and such. I got a chuckle out of this...

Site work begins for 100 affordable units in Dartmouth's Shannon Park

Quote:
Site preparations have begun in a Dartmouth, N.S., neighbourhood for the first 100 public housing units in a joint housing project of the provincial and federal governments.

The province said in a news release Tuesday that the 100 units in Shannon Park will provide affordable housing to over 300 people. Those units will be the first of a planned 930 homes that the province and Ottawa announced for the area in December.

“These homes will be part of an exciting new community development, close to schools, childcare, other homes and recreation,” Housing Minister John White said in the release.

The province didn’t say when it expects the first 100 units at the former military site near the A. Murray MacKay Bridge to be move-in ready. It has not yet issued a tender for the construction work, Build Nova Scotia spokesperson Beverley Kays said.

Three hundred of the 930 units will be built on provincially owned land, according to the December announcement.

The province purchased around one hectare of land in 2025 from Canada Lands Company, a federal Crown corporation, which purchased more than 34 hectares at Shannon Park from the Department of National Defence in 2014.

The other 630 units will be built on federal land.
