It is very hard to find photos of some of NYC's original observatories. There are nearly none for the Chrysler building. I couldn't find any for the Woolworth building or the Singer building.

"For too long, New Yorkers haven't been able to access this view," Mamdani said. "It's been closed off to the very people that should be seeing it."
The mayor tied the announcement to a celebration of Dinkins, New York City's first Black mayor, on the second day of Black History Month.
The $6 million renovation is to "repaint the cupola, repair the rotunda, add glass barriers and restore this one of a kind civic space to a landmark befitting Mayor Dinkins," Mamdani said.
A statement from the mayor's office cast the move as part of the "Mamdani administration's efforts to ensure New Yorkers across the five boroughs are able to access and enjoy the city's public realm."
"We're going to make an iconic building a must-see bucket item for all New Yorkers," said Yume Kitasei, the newly-appointed commissioner of DCAS, which manages the building.

Finally getting around to posting these, taken last September. Always enjoy a visit to this deck and Rockefeller Center in general, which is very much Old New York.
I don't mind some of the changes, even the reduced space for some of the attractions. But space given over to the "I have to eat everywhere" crowd is a bit much for me. I takes up too much of the space. These people can stuff their bellies and lounge about downstairs. The space is crowded enough, as observation decks in the city are very popular.

I took my family up 30 Rockefeller Center a decade ago when I last visited. Fabulous views (even better than that from the ESB, although you can hardly see my favourite building of all, the Chrysler building). Very pricey. Something like $200 for a family of four just to go up.

One of the things I loved about Top of the Rock was that there was lots of places to sit inside and out- my feet and knees get sore as hell sometimes, and being able to sit and rest for a bit can make the difference between being able to stick around and enjoy an attraction, and having to leave because I'm in blinding pain and have no means of relief until I'm out. And I also recommended Top of the Rock to other people who might have similar needs- mobility issues, low energy, etc.
Sadly it looks like they've gotten rid of those seating areas, replacing them for space reserved for people paying for food or drinks, along with the other attractions. Please tell me there's still places up there for people to sit without having to pay for something. (beyond their observatory ticket)

Yeah, the pricing is getting out of hand, especially for families.

There are a few places left to sit, particularly on the south facing side.

How popular do you think the observation deck on top of the Manhattan Municipal Building will become compared to the other five decks currently in New York City?
