Things are going pretty well!
Heaviest Corner On Earth will be near 100% occupancy once the Brown-Marx Building (1906) is finished being converted to a hotel. This comes about 10-15 years after the intersection was almost completely vacant.

Apartment and loft conversions and construction continues at a pretty quick clip on the Southside (downtown south side of the tracks).
UAB continues it's rapid expansion in both student population and new buildings both academic and medical. UAB recently bought the St. Vincent's health system from Ascencion for about $450 million. The school also bought the Daniel Building (tallest building outside of downtown) in midtown for more office space.
Many one-way streets in downtown and the Southside continue to get road diets.
The former AT&T City Center (30 floors, 390 ft, largest office building in downtown) has been converted to apartments and rebranded as The 600.
Those are just some highlights. Next time I stay home for the weekend I'll go downtown and take some pictures for better context. There's plenty more to mention, but I think waiting to do it with pictures would make for a better post.
