I don't subscribe to the Los Angeles Times so I can't view 101 movie list.

Is Jacques Demy's Model Shop on the list, if so, where?

The writeup:

From a vista point in the hills above Sunset, Gary Lockwood’s broke architect George admires the “baroque harmony” of L.A. in temporary French transplant Jacques Demy’s urban travelogue of disenchantment and dreams. George drives his vintage MG around town, from a Venice Beach shack to the gridded, sunlit reality of storefront Hollywood. As Vietnam and the repo man loom, hustling the 1960s to the exit, a balmy day in the basin makes for a poetically existential way station. Though a flop in 1969, Demy’s mesmerizing SoCal mood piece has since earned its time-capsule status (Tarantino’s a fan).

I'm curious about the house with the oil pump in the front yard?

PS: I can’t get the “SHOW MORE” links to work in any browser - not in Firefox, not in Chrome, not in Safari, not in Opera.

Are the “SHOW MORE” links working for anybody here?

Same for me, opening it as a non-subscriber; and you can add not in Edge to that list. (But the link works for me as a subscriber.)

Thanks for the information, Bristolian...I loved reading their description of Model Shop.

If I remember correctly, the oil well is to the side of the ratty bungalow, not in front of it.

And there might have been a mini-railspur between the oil well and the bungalow but there doesn't appear to be much room for it.

I guessing that John Hillerman's accent in The Last Picture Show was his native Texan accent. I must admit that it came as a bit of surprise to me as I didn't see the movie until long after knowing him with an RP British accent in Magnum PI!

I can see that, heh!!! Peter Bogdanovich had a repertory of actors he cast in many of his movies: Cybill Shepherd, Ryan O'Neal, Madeline Kahn, Ben Gazzara, John Hillerman, Randy Quaid.

I got to see John Hillerman in person once. I attended a taping of The Betty White Show in 1977. John Hillerman played Betty White's ex-husband and the director of her show. (Betty played an actress who was the lead in a cop show, a la Police Woman.) Georgia Engel was also in this and played her best friend.

It lasted 14 episodes. It was promising, but never gelled, I guess. I didn't even have a TV at that time until after the show was cancelled. About ten years ago a friend of mine got some discs of all the episodes...I guess they'd aired on TV Land once...and we watched them.

I'd never seen this before until I saw the episode of Mad Men where Jon Hamm's character is in a theatre watching this film and they show a car turning off Sunset onto La Cienega and that made me want to see it. Now I own it. I'd never heard of an enterprise (Model Shop) like that before, either.

By the way, E_R, your former bungalow on Hancock Ave. is currently for rent, if you're of a mind to do so.

I wonder what they're asking for rent nowadays?

If I remember correctly I paid less than $500. (mind you that was for 1/2 of the bungalow)

All three bungalows are divided in half, length-wise. . . one bedroom in ea. plus smallish kitchen and a living room (with high wooden rafters)

The IMDB filming location for George's house is 15 Outrigger Street, Marina Del Rey, seen near center here. None of the old buildings from 1969 remain.

Google Maps

This shot from about 1930 of the same area shows a lot of oil drilling activity.

https://www.marinadelreyhistoricalsociety.org/oil-boom-1929-1930/

I think there's a good chance that is the location. None of the other IMDB locations seem as likely as this.
