Thankfully, it also looks like they'll have to submit samples of all the building materials for pre-approval as well. Was this ever a requirement for Claridge when they built Phase 1, or is this a result of Claridge's bait-&-switch? Because Phase 1 looks nothing like it did in the renderings and is a hideous eyesore on the Market.
It's easy to be hard on developers and I understand the cost pressures but especially when they plan on running the hotel for a generation you would think they have some pride. I guess getting rich enough to be a minority NHL owner makes it all worth it. Honestly Trump gaudiness with his name on top is more understandable. Have just an ounce of pride!
Ah crap, is that Claridge building proposal literally the same height as Moxy?
That Moxy Marriott won't have any Parliament views whatsoever when Claridge builds, but the stepped terraces will give residents a nice view of the action on King Edward
Claridge Homes seeks to develop the subject site with a 17-storey hotel addition to the existing Andaz Hotel. The hotel extension will feature common space on the lower three floors for guests. The ground floor includes the reception area, a variety of seating options, a bar, a computer station, a guest kitchen and dining space. The second floor features a ballroom along the York Street façade. The ballroom’s high ceilings extend to a portion of the third floor. A pool and fitness centre are also proposed to be located on the third floor. The remaining 14 storeys are designed in a tower form, and contain hotel rooms. A mechanical penthouse is proposed on top of the 17th storey. The hotel capacity is proposed to be 154 hotel rooms with 1,570 square metres of assembly space provided.
Some red brick on the podium would be a welcome improvement over the Andaz ground floor which looks extremely tacky up close. It's also very poorly finished. The granite plinth or whatever you wish to call it was falling apart on day 1.

In the drawings its being referred to as HH Hotel with separate entrance, lobby, etc. I'm guessing... Hyatt House brand? A lot of the rooms appear to have kitchenettes.

Maybe? At it's inception many years ago, this project was going to be a Hampton by Hilton.
Liking the new design. Seems to leave enough space all around the tower to avoid the Great Wall of Rideau effect. If they keep up the quality of Ascent and Hintonburg, this could be a nice, competent addition to the Market (to contrast with the Andaz dog's breakfast they built a decade ago).

Changed the name of the thread to Hyatt House. I know Clardige calls it an addition, but is it really?
Also wondering about the residential tower. We had it under the original Andaz thread back in 2013-2014. Should we tack in on here, or should it get it's own thread at this point:

I think that they are separate construction projects, even if they are ultimately part of the same complex.
So should we use the old Andaz thread for the residential tower or start a new one? It was always weird Claridge bunched the Andaz and residential tower in one back in 2013 since they were completely separate.
