I would not say it's lovely but it's kind of interesting to see this different perspective of Scotia Square. I guess it'll most likely only be a view that lasts a few years.

It seems the Delta brand is new and I guess they did a bit of a facelift to this building? It looks surprisingly good. I wonder what the plan is for the land in front of Cogswell Tower.

The side of Barrington Tower could use some kind of mural or lighting installation. And the whole Barrington/Duke corner could use a redo. I like aspects of the Duke facade.

All of those open-air bus shelters scattered around seem rather underwhelming for the major transit hub downtown. Just finding the correct one for the route you’re looking for would appear to be challenging. HRM again drops the ball with Transit.

Actually Keith the glassed in ones have heaters attached that definitely take away the chill. Pleasantly surprised and so far respected as they are clean and no street art.

The shelters are quite nice. Definitely the nicest I've used in the city. But you are right, it would have been great if the city had been more ambitious about the transit infrastructure in this project.

And yeah, heading down to get the 29 at the very last north-bound shelter feels like a bit of a hike. That being said, I think I prefer it over the previous transit stops where there wasn't enough room for all the buses, so you'd be standing at the correct stop but since it was filled by another bus your bus would randomly choose another spot, requiring a sprint to catch it before it left.

I suspect the openings down at sidewalk level will let the balmy February breezes take the shine off that.

How do you know which shelter to decamp to? Do they have electronic signage indicating what stops where?

You are giving me flashbacks to years ago.

I think it would have made a lot of sense to have some kind of mixed-use transit development with the buses underground or at least covered by the development (maybe in front of Cogswell Tower), along the lines of what's being contemplated around Mumford. There's also the question of having a true multi-modal terminal downtown covering at least bus and ferry if not also some kind of future BRT/LRT possibilities. They had a very unusual opportunity to reconfigure the area and dig cheaply and in the end they didn't take advantage of it much.

You could argue that Cogswell planning happened so long ago and the city grew more than expected, etc., but the counter-argument is that planning should cover different possible outcomes and shouldn't have taken so long. HRM delays so much that even though more planning is done in the end, the end result can be worse than an earlier provisional plan.

I'd also say the lack of a shared vision for the Cogswell development and Scotia Square is noticeable. Not just additional towers on existing tower pads around the periphery, but a change to how the complex will integrate with the new pedestrian-oriented areas. The Purdy's complex could use an update too.

In Halifax there's tons of growth and construction, but there are a lot of prime locations that sit in limbo (behind the library, the old library, Scotia Square, waterfront).

The stops are numbered "Bay 1," "Bay 2," "Bay 3," etc. No electronic signage (what, are you speaking to us from the future?), but there are clearly different bays, and each bay lists which routes stop there.

Would be great to have electronic signage and route maps to help users orient themselves.
