Yep. I think roundabouts are one of the few things city hall has done right when it comes to improving traffic flow and safety. Merge lanes rather than a yield sign on right turns was another but they seem to be declining in number. Bottom of Garden St is now gone as is the right from Union onto the Viaduct.

To be fair, like half of drivers don't understand what a merge lane is, and sit there slackjawed like it's a yield.

There was a disgruntled former city worker and valley resident over on Reddit that was happy to see Mr. McGovern was leaving... and he was hoping he took "his own advice to quit, if he didn't like how things were being done", lol

Looks like instead that he's moving on up, with a much bigger job at the port.

Brent McGovern seems to have been good at his job, and unlike much of the rest of the top leadership at City Hall, he actually lives in the city.

Moreover, I think he'll be replacing a Rothesay resident in his role as the Port's next COO. So now two of the top of the leadership jobs at the Port, including the CEO, will be held by City of Saint John residents... which is good to see.

The city intends to make part of Sydney Street one-way, near the new South End school (Broad St to St James St). Also, some additional parking spaces and drop-off zones.

In the video they say they chose to tent over living in public housing infested with bed bugs.

A local Saint John social worker stepped up and bought these seniors a home.

I don't know how anyone can watch this and not be pissed off. The government clearly isn't doing enough to build more social housing, and build more deeply affordable housing for those who don't qualify for social housing. Holt ran on being the anti Higgs, and I really hope we start to see bigger solutions funded to deal with the housing crisis and homelessness crisis here in Saint John, and other NB cities.

$59.4 million on public housing maintenance is something, sure... However, the solutions we need to see in NB to get us get out of a "housing crisis" will cost into the billions, and require a huge level of coordination and cooperation between all three levels of government and private companies.

Does anyone know what is the biggest affordable housing development with significant government funding under construction in Saint John right now?

This is going to be a very positive development, and I think it could be the start of a trend to build a lot more mid rise and high rise apartments across the Central Peninsula. What is the name of this neighbourhood if not Uptown? I was trying to find a map of Uptown Saint John on the city website but gave up.

Even if this location isn't technically "Uptown", I think a lot of people would simply refer to it as such, as I think many people consider the the near entirety of the Central Peninsula as "Uptown Saint John". Especially people who live in other parts of Saint John.

Technically Uptown is Duke to Union. South End is Duke to Broadview. Waterloo, Richmond, hospital area were also called uptown before “Waterloo Village” emerged.

I see. Thanks for that explanation.

It sounds like the emergence/creation of "Waterloo Village" label for that neighbourhood was not a great idea to begin with, as even I know from my dad growing up in here that Waterloo has always been a street with a bad reputation. Pretty poor choice by the city to name an entire neighbourhood after a single street with such a bad reputation.

Maybe the city should change the name of the street and change the name of neighbourhood. That neighbourhood and street could certainly use a fresh start!

It's not deranged, it's a better use of existing infrastructure and the city got external money to pay for the lane painting, so it's not only not a new cost to taxpayers but reduces long-term wear on the new asphalt they just laid, so in essence saves money in the long run.

This silly negative narrative around long-overdue bike infrastructure is such a pointless wedge issue discussion, it's overall good for our city with basically no downsides.
