Nice! I wonder what the advertisement for "We Buy Souls" is actually for.

I used to wonder that myself; somewhere in my photo thread is a closeup of one of those signs...

Anyway, I found out it's conceptual art from a conceptual artist:

Why are those 'We buy souls' posters all over LA?

That's funny...I was at Blossom Market Hall two weeks ago. Manduyo wasn't terrible.

We haven't had their food yet. In fact, we just walked through the Blossom Market Hall that day I took the pictures without buying anything. We hadn't been there in a few years, too. We wanted to see how it changed. We're glad the Caribbean Gourmet is still there, we like their food. I've also heard good things about the Filipino place that's there that wasn't there when Blossom Hall first opened.

We hadn't been there in a few years (maybe 3 years?) because one of the workers at the wine bar pissed us off. Without getting into a long story, the worker was berating/accusing/lecturing my partner of doing something that another customer had done, and my partner did NOT like her tone, nor did I. She was basically being a bitch. Hehe so we told ourselves we wouldn't go there for a long while, and we complained to management. We were very happy to learn that since then, that wine bar we went to closed for some time and changed owners/proprietors a few times, I think it even went through a few name changes.

JD Vance, in the words of The Thompson Twins, "Lies, lies, lies, yeah! They're gonna get you!"

JD Vance's so-called "press conference" yesterday was obviously staged, with only few selected media outlets chosen to ask "questions" that were clearly asked so that Vance could answer with his own rhetoric/propaganda. TALK ABOUT POLITICAL THEATER!!!! Neither the mayor nor the governor were notified of Vance's arrival, so obviously they wouldn't have gone to nor have been invited to this press conference.

And NO, JD Vance, the Senator's name is NOT "José." It's ALEX PADILLA.

"Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who over the past few years have actively encouraged illegal migration into this community..."

LIES!

"We have to remember, that the Friday that the riots started, before there was a single National Guardsman before the President of the United States had sent in additional federal resources, you had law enforcement officers who were being captured and beaten by violent mobs egged on by Gavin Newsom and other officials."

LIES LIES LIES!!!

I've got the RECEIPTS; here's proof that Los Angeles did not burn down.

These are random photos I took the evening of Juneteenth, 2025, and the day of Juneteenth. My partner's employer gives everyone the day off for Juneteenth, whereas my employer gave us a half day. So we decided to enjoy the rest of Juneteenth together.

Ahhh.. South Pas during sunset on the eve of summer.

I did a Trader Joe's run. I actually haven't been to TJ's in a few years. I was craving those little ice cream drumstick-kinda things they sell.

June 19, 2025. Los Angeles did not burn down. And NO, JD Vance, the rioting has not subsided... THERE'S NONE GOING ON RIGHT NOW.

Nice tour, I thought they had already cleaned up the graffiti off of the Japanese American Museum. I drove past on the 101 freeway last Saturday and saw protestors on the freeway overpass and the crowds no where as large as the media made it out to be. It seemed rather peaceful at that. I live in the valley and there was absolutely nothing going on, the city was just going on about it’s every day business.

I was hoping that they had cleaned up all the graffiti on the Japanese American Museum. Hopefully soon. I understand why it happened, but it upsets me to see the graffiti there, I have a sentimental and emotional connection to Little Tokyo---I've been going there since my teens. At first we thought we didn't want to go through Little Tokyo until we knew the graffiti was gone, but I just had to go through there to see and show people that life has basically gone back to normal in that area. We drove down Alameda past the Metropolitan Detention Center and saw the National Guard all lined up in front of it, I wish I had taken a picture of them just standing around doing nothing. They really don't need to be here. Such a waste of money and resources.

I haven't really been taking much photos the past month or so... busy with family, relatives, stuff going on, work, ICE raids going on in some very familiar places... that full plate called "life," I guess.

But here are a few random photos anyway, taken within the last 4 weeks or so. I've mentioned it before, but I think of this thread as my journal of sorts.

And as I've mentioned before, I try to keep my photos to places within Los Angeles County, though some Orange County locales have made it here. And now, an Inland Empire locale, specifically Upland, in San Bernardino County. It's part of Greater Los Angeles anyway.

My partner's aunt was in the area; she's retired and lives in Florida. She's very fun and sweet. Once or twice a year, she visits her best friend from elementary school. They both grew up in the SGV but her friend has been living in Alta Loma for many years now, and "Auntie," as I call her, stays with her friend in Alta Loma when she comes back this way. Anyway, we often meet her at a restaurant in downtown Upland, which has become "our place."

Traffic wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, so we got to Upland earlier than we expected. So we just walked around for a bit.

My partner and I decided to go to the restaurant 10 minutes before our reservation. Auntie wasn't there yet, so we decided to get a cocktail before she arrived. And she arrived on time.

After having dinner with Auntie, as we were getting back to the car, we saw this cool old Chevy.

Back closer to our neck of the woods...

I was half-joking to my partner, "Is that an ICE surveillance helicopter?"

Nowadays, you never know.

OK so my sister and her husband are curently in town for a week, visiting. We met with them yesterday. They moved from Chico, CA to Virginia, but they're in town to visit with us, my parents, a cousin, and to hang out for a bit with two of their sons, one who goes to UC Irvine, and the eldest who now lives in Long Beach and works full time. Anyway, at the suggestion of my eldest nephew, we all tried Old Ferry Donut yesterday.

I thought the butter pistachio donut was pretty good, but not the life-changing experience some TikTokers like to make it out to be LOL.

Oh my God those donuts are expensive I will just stick to the plain glaze or twister not much into the fancy stuff. As usual good photos, I used to live in Upland, it sort of have a look like the San Gabriel Valley, lots of trees, and the View of Mount Baldy is awesome specially there’s snow on top of them in the winter time. The apartment I live in face the mountain so I had a beautiful view working on my living room and my kitchen window. Upland will always have a special place in my heart. I could easily live there now if I can convince my wife to move from the San Fernando Valley. Downtown Upland is coming along rather nicely and the good thing is it’s near the train station. Of course it would never be on the scale of the village in Claremont. I have taken the Metrolink to Claremont to hang out and just relax and enjoy the village and walk around the colleges, there is also a botanical gardens. Other times I’ve taken Metrolink to visit my sister and brother in-law in Rancho Cucamonga. It’s a great way to get to the inland Empire and avoid the traffic.

Lately I noticed traffic is not as bad but I think because many people are staying home fearing ICS may come and get them. I’ve also noticed in the valley the last several weeks helicopters are flying around constantly and I wonder too if those are surveillance helicopters because they are flying constantly all day long and sometimes late into the evening

Hehe I don't hink I'll have another Old Ferry Donut for a while, and if I do, it'll be a different kind. And I realize there's a location much closer to me in San Gabriel; the one we went to yesterday was the Cerritos location since we were out that way (my parents live in Cerritos).

The older sections of Upland do have some character and remind me of the older sections of the SGV, with lots of trees as you mentioned, and many Craftsman homes. And yes, the view of Mount Baldy covered in snow is really nice.

I feel I do see more helicopters hovering around here and there and it does make me feel that they are doing surveillance. Makes me feel uneasy, like we're becoming more of a police state and that "Big Brother" is really watching us.

OK, so I thought I wouldn't be getting another Old Ferry Donut for a while. What was I thinking? This evening I went to the San Gabriel location and got my partner a Boston Cream donut and for myself, I got a Mango Cream Ball donut. Both were YUMMY.

Just one picture taken last week, while out and about.

Sometimes, when nice white clouds form behind the San Gabriels, depending on their shape/shapes, it looks like an erupting volcano. This picture is NOT one of those views... While driving, I saw a much better view of this, but I figured this was my last chance of taking a picture with the mountains and white clouds before I made a left turn. Those buildings got in the way.

Come on baby,

Ah, September. As fall is starting in the rest of the US, here in Los Angeles, summer is barely starting. Our seasons tend to be one to two months behind. This month has been hot, and unusually humid, with tropical looking skies. A few random photos taken within September.
