IMO it's ridiculous. It creates at least 3 potential side swipe situations. In fact this morning a white truck almost wiped me and a motorcyclist out. Pay attention, put down the phone, and have your hand near the horn. It is a bad design. I don't know how anyone arguing unnecessary lane changes as a good thing.
