There is a W.M. Fares rendering on site now. THE FINCH looks like a pretty standard style project for them.

On the one hand I am getting bored of the same design by WM Fares (this one looks almost identical to their design at Joe Howe / Bayers)

On the other hand, I appreciate the positioning of their projects. Seem to generally be in areas which benefit from gentle densification

This is in my neighborhood. While I appreciate the higher-density housing, I think this'll probably look out of place.

What a significant change from these renderings. The new design on the billboard looks so bland and generic.

Housing Accelerator Fund proposed changes for the remaining lands;

Quote:
22 DAWSON
• This vacant parcel currently sits next to 2 projects which are under construction, one 6 storeys (PID 41508508) and the other 28 storeys (PID 00045567).
• Staff are recommending an increase in height on PID 41508508 to have a consistent height across the property.
• A height of 7 storeys meets the intent of policy in having a transition from highdensity CEN Zone to the north, to the low-density ER neighbourhood to the south.

FAULKNER STREET
• This vacant parcel is across from 28 storeys (PID 00045567) currently under construction.
• The requested FAR of 5.0 is above the maximum permitted FAR in the CEN-1 Zone by policy, so a rezoning to CEN-2 would be necessary to facilitate the request.
• In reviewing this proposal, staff are not recommending further changes to the Wyse Road CEN at this time, as the CEN-1 Zone is part of a transitional zoning to low-density neighbourhoods to the south and west of the property.
• This is a large parcel, a FAR of 3.5 enables a sizeable project.

There is a permit submitted for the building in behind The Finch facing Faulkner Street.

I think we'll need a better name for this thread once construction starts here. Maybe;

[Dartmouth] Wyse-Dawson-Faulkner Block | ? M | 35 & 2x7 Fl | U/C

That will cover the three related projects but make it clear that this thread doesn't include Wyse Tower or The Boa Vista.

Building permit was just submitted for 21 FAULKNER STREET - 7 FLOORS - 133 UNITS. I've updated the thread title. I wonder how long until the big lot gets underway.

To answer my own question above apparently not long. A Grade Alteration Permit has been issued for a 24-storey building on the lower big block. The upper big block was just converted into a fenced in gravel parking lot, presumably for the construction workers of one or more of the many construction sites surrounding it.

So within 200 metres of Wyse & Dawson there is now; 40 floors at Little Brooklyn - The Arrows, 32 floors at Dartmouth Towers I, 27 floors at Wyse Tower (City Centre site), 16 floors at Boa Vista, 11 floors at 169 Wyse Road, 7 floors at The Finch, and 7 floors at 21 Faulkner underway. That is insanity!

THE FINCH is now occupied. There is still work being done on the outside. The 24-storey building will be next door on the left from this angle.

As I understand it there is also a plan for the lot on the far side of the building as shown in the pic for a project of similar size (7 storeys). It was orginally owned by the same group as the one pictured but was sold to the owner of one of the sub-trades to this project. Not sure of the development timeline on that one.

AllNovaScotia has a story on this development including a rendering that I can't cross-post. Ghosn Group's next building will be THE NEST - 23 FLOORS - ~200 UNITS.

The rendering is interesting to say the least. It will be a stepped building with a very small footprint in the upper floors.

It sure is interesting. The massing reminds me of the building on Brenton Street behind Trillium, but the cladding is super interesting.
The article mentioned that this is part of phase 2 for Ghosn, and referenced a 35 story phase 3. With the bump on Boa Vista, and the corner lot next to the Sportsplex looking good to get approval, plus of course Brooklyn Yards and Manga... this area is insane!

Yeah, AllNS estimates nearly 4,000 units being developed in the area between Victoria Rd, Boland Rd/Pelzant St, Windmill Rd, and Thistle St.

It's insane and believable at this stage. I hope they sort out the street level in the area. Would it make sense to have walkways that go below the intersection?

I feel this would contribute to bridge walking.

There should be a crane up here soon.

Yeah, but The Nest is 23 storeys. Tough to do without a crane.
