Jersey barriers are going in on the property, looks like readiness to clear it all out. interesting to see what is planned. Don’t know why anyone doubted you Jono.

I don't think anyone doubted that the property was about to be developed; that's been the works for quite a while now. The question was about the scale. The only info out in public so far is that a 7-storey building has been approved.

Saul, 7 stories for the Maple/Ochterloney corner? That seems short. Can you share the public info? Thanks, John

Go back one page and you'll see that Dmajackson posted this on May 1:

"PID 00128454 is currently approved for 7-storey, 65-units."

There is crane parts (boom and a few tower sections, but no cab) behind Izzy,s bagels on the Bedford highway. Any projects going forward in that area that anybody knows about?

Marco Group shared a rendering on their instagram stories yesterday that showed a generic 7 storey building for this site.

I noticed that too a month or so ago but my kids wouldn’t let me turn the car around to investigate. I think that lot has been slowly cleared out over the years. Izzy’s just did a big reno, maybe something will go out back. I think there were proposals off Fourth Street a few years back too.

The Construction Management Plan for 173 Ochterlonely Street (1 Crichton Avenue) confirms it is a 7-storey building. A numbered company owns the lot, Marco Group is the contracted builder, and they indicate this will be called THE CANAL.

There's a church next to that property, but the cross doesn't look like that.

St. Peters Church is directly behind this building in the shot. I believe that's just a power pole at the corner of Maple and Ochterloney. It's sad another 90m area is wasted, a taller building would have been nice bordering on Sullivan's Pond.

This current version has got to one of the ugliest proposed buildings yet. At one of the entrances to downtown Dartmouth no less. It looks similar to the horrendous building at the base of Montebello. https://skyscraperpage.com/forum/showthread.php?t=243564

Seconded - it's butt-ugly. Barely an improvement over the derelict gas station it's replacing - just as ugly but on a much larger scale.

I'll take the gas station, thank you.

Surely they can do better than this.

It looks like a mix between an apartment building and a 70's industrial building with corrugated metal cladding.

I do like the massing and curve for that corner but why so bland and ugly? Hopefully some of it is just the rendering.

I have lived a stone's throw from that gas station for the past 24+ years and have always thout it would make a great dinner or pub. I like the mid century design. So, count me in the minority of those who will miss it.

However, I'm in favour of density in that area, however, but that design is not it. Almost as ugly as when I accidentally open my phone camera is selfie mode. No one wants to see that.

Something I see a lot in Halifax are buildings clearly designed to be much taller that look cut off. A good example is The George on Pepperell.
