Multnomah County Library has parted ways with a member of the design team for its east county flagship location in Gresham as allegations have surfaced accusing the member of sexual misconduct.

The Financial Times reported Monday that internationally recognized architect David Adjaye has been accused of sexual harassment and assault. Adjaye has denied the allegations.

On Tuesday, the library — which heralded Adjaye’s inclusion on the project last July — announced Adjaye would not work on the 95,000 square-foot project going forward.

At the Thursday evening unveiling of La Plaza Esperanza, the Latino Network’s new community center, Rios-Campos said he was glad to see how the nonprofit had embraced “the holistic approach” by creating a preschool and hub for services for people of all ages.

“This much-needed space is such a beautiful asset for all of east Multnomah County,” Rios-Campos said. “It’s going to serve a huge population in the Latinx community.”

La Plaza Esperanza, which translates as “the plaza of hope,” has created a new home base for a broad slate of services, including a preschool, afterschool services and programming that will range from youth violence prevention to career coaching, leadership training and cultural performances.
