Latino nonprofit unveils ‘much-needed space’ in heart of east Multnomah County

As a father of two — and mayor to 5,000 in the east Multnomah County enclave of Wood Village — Jairo Rios-Campos knows how important it is to provide safe, healthy and positive spaces for people of all ages.
At the Thursday evening unveiling of La Plaza Esperanza, the Latino Network’s new community center, Rios-Campos said he was glad to see how the nonprofit had embraced “the holistic approach” by creating a preschool and hub for services for people of all ages.
“This much-needed space is such a beautiful asset for all of east Multnomah County,” Rios-Campos said. “It’s going to serve a huge population in the Latinx community.”
La Plaza Esperanza, which translates as “the plaza of hope,” has created a new home base for a broad slate of services, including a preschool, afterschool services and programming that will range from youth violence prevention to career coaching, leadership training and cultural performances.
