In its Fall 2024 fiscal update this week, the provincial government noted that the project to build SkyTrain Millennium Line’s Broadway extension reaching Arbutus will see a relatively slight cost increase of 4.5% or $127 million, growing from $2.827 billion to $2.954 billion.

That's good news. I was expecting another 2 billion lol.

Crews are preparing for track installation inside the tunnels. Here, between GNW-Emily Carr and Mount Pleasant Station, the concrete track base has been poured.

Can you see the pink dots on the concrete base? That’s where fasteners will be installed to hold the rail in place.

When they get funding for it. ie. You'll be waiting a long time.

'No discussion of funding,' as Mike Farnworth takes on B.C.'s transit deficit and difficulties

Premier David Eby tasked Transportation Minister Mike Farnworth with leading efforts to extend TransLink’s Broadway SkyTrain line to the University B.C. in a mandate letter that talked a lot about transit priorities but not so much about cash.

Still waiting on the final business case to be finished/released.

If anyone knows for sure that it's done, FOI is an option.

I sincerely hope it never gets funded, or at the very least, that the Purple Line is prioritized first. UBC has already built some housing on campus and should focus on building more. Taking a bus from Arbutus to UBC is a reasonable and acceptable commute for a student over the average four years of study.

It's not just UBC - it's also Greektown, Jericho and Point Grey Village, plus all the feeder buses. A chance at breaking the West Side's carmageddon suburbistan and grabbing up to 70k+ more daily ridership? Yes please.

70K of seasonal riders who pay $40 for a monthly pass by folks who mostly international. In this case UBC should chip in some cash as well as Jericho development. Even then should be happening after purple line.

It won't be 70,000 for long. Infill will skyrocket once it opens.

Yes, but at what cost? I would bet that extension to UBC would be 10 billion by the time it gets built with current price escalations...

Regrettably, I have hard time seeing new lines beyond Langley getting built any time soon. As in, not before 2040.
