I started a new thread specifically for the Spurs arena downtown. It has gotten too difficult to separate the two projects from within all the posts in this one thread. Please check the new thread for only Spurs arena news and thoughts. Maybe an admin could make this thread just for the baseball stadium.

That's good news! They are tearing down apts next year already. That's pretty quick. I do feel for the people there though, as already stated. I hope they are able to find something.

I saw somewhere that someone heard Weston was planning a taller building on the lot south of 300 Main. Not sure how true that is but sounds nice lol.

I hope so, would love to see a building crack 500, even 600. I mean Austin had a close to 700 footer in 2010 so one can hope lol.

80% certain that lot isn't owned by Weston. But I wouldn't be surprised if they have plans for a taller building on the land they do own.

Yeah, it's owned by TCW Group. But I've always felt that would be an amazing site for a new tallest. But it must be mixed-use -hotel, office, apts, condos. Do what Austin does to maximize the use/sale/rent.

“In a letter to the owners of the San Antonio Missions, the district said its “terms” for the sale include funding the construction of a new building for its Advanced Learning Academy, which SAISD had planned to expand on the property. The district also wants guarantees of more affordable housing within SAISD’s boundaries, to help mitigate already shrinking enrollment that’s contributed to the closure of 13 campuses this year.

Other SAISD demands include a seat on the Houston Street Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone and $400,000 per year to compensate for interest the district says it could have collected by selling the property through other means. The district’s administration is asking its board of trustees to sign off on the district’s terms at a Nov. 18 meeting, and inviting the public to comment, before determining next steps.”

Sounds like being reasonable to me.

I mean, I get it because with the ball park SAISD would be compeltely land locked. I feel they should move the property south and put it closer on Martin and allow SAISD room for expansion.

This Monday the 18th SAISD will be having a public discussion at 5:30pm at their offices on 514 West Quincy concerning the sought after ballpark property, and on a broader note City Council and the Mayor will be briefed in a public hearing by city staff at the Main Plaza chambers this Thursday the 21st at 10:30am about what exactly the 4 billion dollar Project Marvel looks like (maybe we will get some proposed renderings??? ). I think the City Council public meetings are live-streamed but not sure about SAISD.

I believe a vote about whether to sell the ballpark property or not is expected that day. From the article, “The district could include an expanded convention center (definitely), a further improved Alamodome (if we don’t blow it up), a new event venue (like the Moody Center maybe?), a convention center hotel (we just built five of them…), “and potentially a new arena for the San Antonio Spurs.”
