I was thinking we'd seen that before, but I think you posted one for the north shore of the St. Lawrence in the past.

Decades ago I drove between Mont-Joli and Cambellton on a trip into the Maritime provinces. I recall it being very scenic. And it was quite cold despite it being early August. I regret that I have not gone out there since, but a trip around the Gaspésie is on my list.

A trip around the Gaspe is quite worth it. On the north shore, it gets more and more spectacular as you head east towards Forillon. Then of course, there is Perce itself. The trip back along the Chaleur shore is more populated and gentler, but, for some reason, it struck me as somewhat European in character, The whole route takes a couple of days to do.

I've always said it, a full tour around the Peninsula is an adventure itself! There is so much to see for a peninsula that has only 80 000 residents.

Have you ever think about visiting the Magdalen islands? I did and I highly recommend it!

Section 4 – Saint-Hubert-de-Rivière-du-Loup and Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata – In service
Section 4, located in Saint-Hubert-de-Rivière-du-Loup and Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata, was commissioned on September 17 , 2024. Construction work began in October 2021 and covered a distance of 5.6 km. It resulted in the following :

of a complete interchange (four ramps) at kilometer 72, at the height of chemin Taché Ouest;
of three bridges over the Saint-François River;
of two bridges at the height of Armstrong Creek;
from the western service road (Roches road and Gérard-Roy road).


Section 4, near Taché West Road in Saint-Hubert-de-Rivière-du-Loup (summer 2024).

Section 5 – Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata – In service
Section 5, located in Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata, was commissioned on September 17 , 2024. Construction work began in August 2021 and covered a distance of 4.7 km. It notably resulted in the construction of :

of a half-interchange at kilometer 67, including an overpass and two ramps (entrance and exit in the north direction), at the height of rue Principale Nord and 10e Rang ;
of three bridges at the height of the Rivière des Prairies;
eastern (rue Principale) and western (route Gérard-Roy) service roads.


Section 5, in the northern sector of rue Principale in Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata (summer 2024).


Section 7 – Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata and Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha! – In progress
Work has been underway since September 2022 in Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata and Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha! over a distance of 8.2 km. This section will be commissioned gradually between 2024 and 2026. The work includes :

deforestation operations;
the relocation of public service equipment (Hydro-Québec, Bell, Vidéotron);
the construction of two motorway carriageways and two service roads;
the development of a half-interchange at the level of rue Principale, in Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata;
interventions on the Petit-Témis interprovincial linear park trail.

Looks like as of September 17th, 2024 there is only 8 km remaining to be completed linking Canada's largest interprovincial freeway network (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia) between the metro areas of Windsor, Ontario and Halifax, Nova Scotia (over 2150 km freeway network).

With A-85 completing, it means the furthest direct driving route in Canada entirely on a freeway will be Hubbard, NS to the Gordie Howe Bridge in Windsor - about 2,200km.

Yes just checked and Hubbards on the 103 to the south is slightly further than Windsor on the 101 to the north.

Give it a couple of years and the 103 will extend to Exit 7 at Chester. Contracts already under way.

With how much of the 104 is getting the dual carriageway treatment, that way must be getting close to matching the distance at this point...

Eventually as far east as Monastery. I don't know the plans for beyond that point. The Strait of Canso is a very tough nut to crack.

Why is it so much of an issue? It's only 1km wide...

Depth of the waterway. Pre-existing infrastructure. The nature of the terrain.

It could be done, but, it would be very expensive, and, there are fewer people in Cape Breton than in PEI, and, Nova Scotia is notoriously Halifax-centric. Iy would be considered a waste of money.

Roads to Bridgewater and Kentville on the other hand would make a lot of sense to government planners based in Halifax. These roads after all would feed into Halifax, A road to Cape Breton on the other hand goes in the wrong direction.
