At some thermal power plants especially in the former Soviet Union, but also in Poland and other countries, there is the following problem: the power exit of the machine transformer is on the other site of the power station building than the switchyard and so the high voltage line from the machine transformer to the switchyard has to cross the power station building. As this building is quite tall and massive this crossing is either realized by using the chimneys of the power station as electricity pylon or by electricity pylons on the roof of the power station building. Why have some power stations a layout requiring the line from the machine transformer to the switchyard crossing the power station building and others not? Why can one find not in all countries power stations where the power line from the machine transformer to the switchyard crosses the power station building?
