Question maybe you know the answer to. When are 'housing starts' officially recorded? At permit issue? Groundbreaking? Some other point in the development?
There's been talk in the news lately of how the Atlantic provinces have been doing great year over year while Ontario is slumping. I imagine all these new large (some up to 1000 units) developments will really boost our starts when they hit.

Man, That tims almost escaped my memory even though I spent my teens and early 20s buying there. Glad to see the hole getting filled in.

I remember when it was a Fina station (I bet Mark does too). But then a lot of folks here probably won't even know what Fina was...

lol… It was run by Roger Deveau, if I’m remembering it right. I recall my mother telling me that during WWII it was open space on which the soldiers practiced bayonet drills.

Nice to see it become useful land again. 🙂

This project is in excavation and up until now it was planned as a 10 storey building so it never got it's own thread. Well a new development-only permit was just issued for;

Quote:
Dear Planner, We would like to get a development-only permit on lots 28/40 Ochterloney St. (10 Edward St, Dartmouth).

Multi-unit with commercial

29 storeys + rooftop greenhouse + 2 storeys of underground parking

219 residential units + 5 commercial spaces
Dartmouth truly is growing like a weed towards the sky. 220 units next to Alderney Bus/Ferry Terminal is definitely the best location for something this tall. I think this is makes 13 high-rises planned or under construction for Downtown Dartmouth and Wyse Road Centre.

Great place for a wind tunnel. Must be hoping/praying for a decline in construction costs and more mass immigration.

I’m having a hard time envisioning 30 storeys in that location (mainly because I grew up in that area), but it shouldn’t look too out of place with Queen Square next door, and the post office project just up the street.

Very interesting…

Who wants to live next to the crematorium of Dartmouth Funeral Home ?
A former owner of the pie shop and the lot was very annoyed when the council approved the application by Dartmouth Funeral Home owner.

^ I lived next to a crematorium for a few months. It never bothered me. They are pretty ideal neighbours (no noise, no cops, no smell).

The box of explosives should say "ACME".

It bothers me that the city doesn't have a method viewing the active developments. This project likely needed a development permit but here were are blowing up the site without anyone knowing what the project will look like. Building's should not be a surprise. We should know the architect, etc etc...

I've updated the thread title to match the new building permit for this site. 32 FLOORS - 226 UNITS - 90 METRES

Nice! That's a small lot so I'd expect this to be a nice slim, tall tower at 32/90m

Edited to add that Queen Square is only 75m, so this will poke up behind it nicely by 15m
