Nice. 1346 ft., especially with this kind of bulk, is gonna be pretty epic. And the companion tower is pretty substantial too.

Hope the third tower is another major supertall, with bulk and height.

Wouldn't this be a contender of largest building in NYC with that much floor space, towers & terminal?

Terminal and towers together, you're talking over 7 msf. This is a pretty huge development overall, and not enough people in New York are talking about it.

1346ft? Hoping for at least 1500ft. Pray it's not blue. The facade better be good.

Would like to see how this looks from the WTC (well looking north from downtown) and from the top of the ESB.

^ Thankfully, we haven't been seeing many new blue glass office towers. Also keep in mind that zoning heights don't include rooftop structures. I also would imagine the eventual design of the towers to reflect somewhat on the main terminal itself. I should also point out that these towers are probably a decade away, and a future developer could always alter the design envelope.

Yeh just was expecting the height of this one to be much more especially as it will be coming in a decade+ but not including the roof top structure is an interesting one. Of course it's early doors in the design. Just look at the changes of 350 Park.

This would literally be one of the largest buildings in the the USA at the current proposal by SF.

As it is, it's pretty high. If not for the terminal taking up the lower space, it wouldn't be as high as they're saying now. But it will be up to any developer to get the real specifics of what will ultimately be built. I for one would prefer more rounded corners to work with the bus terminal design.

These towers are very wide at the top, and we may not get that.

This early sketch of Foster's design (not the current design) reminds me of 350 Park Avenue...

Lobby locations of both towers shown...

I should also point out that while the towers may not be as tall as some would like, and could always be taller, there’s already been a bump in height from what was stated just a few months ago.

What they are now stating:

There’s also a huge possibility that tower 3 could be built before the terminal towers.

In reality, Tower 1 is higher than the previous indications only because the 161 feet of the grade are added to the height of 1,193 feet.

It isn’t. If that were the case, it would apply to both towers.

^ it always confuses me what the true height is as its never clear if they are considering the above sea level or local grade of the site.

In this case, they are measuring from ground level, which at this point I say we still have to wait until these towers are designed to lock in anything. The terminal itself is about 5 years away from construction. Hopefully by then, they will have selected a developer, and construction can continue. Better to get all of the messy stuff out of the way at once.

If they select a developer in a reasonable amount of time, it would be fitting if Foster and Partners designed the towers. I've been thinking about the number of developments Foster has been designing in New York lately. There is a lot of homegrown work for sure. But Foster has certainly been leaving a mark in the past decade and coming years. You look at 50 Hudson, 425 Park, 270 Park, 350 Park, 15 Penn, 2 WTC, even the Hearst tower and some more minor developments, a mark is being left on the skyline. But for most New Yorkers, and people in the tri-state area, it is the new Port Authority Bus Terminal that will stand out. Mostly because of what it's replacing, the hated PA Bus terminal that stands now. But also, because it will be an enormous structure that stretches from 8th Avenue, all the way to the convention center. It will be a landmark in itself, rising to the level of the great transit centers like Grand Central and Moynihan/Penn. And it will be massive enough to make even the skyscrapers above it seem small in comparison.

I love the integration of the towers into the framework of the bus terminal, and hope the design of the towers matches in quality that of the terminal.

The current bus terminal is basically 2 integrated terminals, with gates that function differently in each part. The new terminal will have a seamless layout.

A typical layout of the above ground bus gates:

And of course, each of those levels will have large storage capacity:

i wonder if they have made plans to include electric charging stations at the docks for all the busses, assuming that will be common for them by the time its built?

Presumably they will have that in the storage facility.
