There is about 1 km of utter insanity in lane alignments and road markings on the new west ring road … westbound 201 at the 69 Street exit.
1. Immediately before 69 St exit: Left lane ends. Fairly well marked
2. Immediately after 69 St exit: Right lane ends. Very, very well marked (overhead and roadside signs)
3. A few metres further: The next right lane abruptly ends. Very poorly marked (a single, small roadside sign)
4. A few metres further: Shortly after the right lane ends, a brand new left lane abruptly starts!!
Almost daily, at #3 above (where the second right lane ends) I see people either swerving or slamming on their brakes.
Two right lanes end one after the other. The first is super well marked. The markings for the second lane that ends, by comparison, are totally different and sneak up on the drivers. It’s inconsistent, and non-sensical.
Even more non-sensical, moments after that right lane ends (#3 in my list!), a brand new left lane starts ... as if out of nowhere.
Why oh why would they make the right lane end (abruptly) and then a few metres further away have a brand new left lane start? Why not just align the lane markers so that there are always 3 lanes … instead of a lane ending and another beginning!? A right lane ends at the same place as a left lane starts?! Huh??
There’s gonna be some accidents here…
