Wasn’t there a rumor of Charlotte getting a new tallest? Any word on that?

The developer for VeLa Uptown has filed to increase the height by 4 floors making the new total 36 floors. Hopefully construction will start this summer.

That’d be epic. Any rumor on location?

From what i've heard, it could be adjacent to the convention center (corner of S College & E MLK) which just recently got cleared or part of the future development at the old Pipe & Foundry location which is near I77 & I277/John Belk Freeway.

That development is really stretching out. Can’t believe how far south these high rises are going. There needs to be another light rail line down S Tyron if this continues.

Oh, wow, a genuine boom going on in Charlotte! While the promise of a new tallest is always popular here, it's that steady drum beat of ~30-story towers that ultimtely helps build a skyline, creating a wider canopy for the 500-800 footers to rise from. Glad to see Charlotte getting that.

I agree. The skyline is really starting to extend to the south of the CBD. There is a massive amount of development to the north, but it seems to be more low and mid-rise development up to this point. Hopefully the immediate north side of downtown (uptown to non natives!) will gain some traction with the VeLa Uptown hopefully breaking ground this summer, the new library and hopefully a 400-500' office tower which is proposed on that same block.

Charlotte Main Library Update

Construction crews are getting ready to go vertical on a new $137.3 million library in uptown Charlotte.
Demolition of the former library building began last August, and crews are wrapping up site prep work now. Tommy Scott, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library communications specialist, said foundation work and vertical construction will begin as soon as that's completed. The project is on schedule and slated to deliver in summer 2026.

The Main Library project was to be part of a larger redevelopment of 6.8 acres, bound by North Tryon, Seventh, College and Sixth streets. Washington, D.C.-based Metropolitan Partnership was the master developer until that project was scrapped last August. The Seventh and Tryon mixed-use development, which would have completely remade the North Tryon corridor, called for a 400,000-square-foot office tower, market-rate apartments, 31,000 square feet of retail and other features.

N Graham St & W Sixth St. in Fourth Ward/Uptown

[IMG]http://Untitled by Steve Hunt, on Flickr[/IMG]

Finally an announcement for a long awaited needed project at N Graham St. & W Sixth St.

Even though its only has 7 floors, it will be a nice addition to this area with the potential retail, coffee shop or wine bar. Set to be completed in the summer of 2026.

Side note, its amazing they are going to incorporate the old Fourth Ward Bread Co. building in the design which can be seen in the middle of the project with the distinct brick color contrast.

Spending five days in downtown Atlanta has given me a renewed appreciation for Uptown Charlotte.
