Eventually, yes. However, those buildings are increasingly complex (like hospitals) and have very long lead times.

It seems like the the (study) has been going on for quite some time.

This old Gal needs to be replaced imo. I'd like to be a fly on the wall and hear these discussions.

From that EJ article

"The budget also set aside a further $1 million to examine needs of a possible future Sherwood Park courthouse. The budget’s fiscal plan lists “demand for services exceeding capacity, layout, security, prisoner circulation and the ability to use new technology” as issues at the current site in a strip mall. A bigger facility in Sherwood Park could be used to relieve pressure on the Edmonton Law Courts, suggested Shandro."

How fucking stupid - inconvenient for Edmontonians and the legal and judiciary. I would like to give Shandro a good kick in the ass.

I'm kinda okay with sherwood park getting a bigger court house. Perhaps they can also get a couple homeless shelters, and some other big boy city amenities now that they are approaching 100k in the 'hamlet' alone. Ease some of the burden on Edmonton.

Sherwood Park Provincial Courthouse is ridiculously small, it's literally in a strip mall. They could use a proper facility.

Regardless, that won't negate the need to carry out significant renovations/additions/replacement of the downtown Law Courts building.

you mean these discussions:

"we need to give calgary $330 for an arena"

"but that means we need to give something for edmonton"

"why don't we give edmonton 1,300 shelter beds and work hard to keep them full?"

"you mean like doing more studies on a new courthouse and new hospitals rather than giving them a new courthouse and hospitals?"

"exactly... and the best part is we can blame it all on ottawa."

"go flames go"...

No...that's not what I was alluding to.

We will find out in the Spring or summer or 2025 or next election lol.

Sherwood park should have a bigger courthouse to take some pressure off of Edmonton.

Unfortunately, I would not be surprised in the least if this was an actual conversation between Dani and her henchmen lol

Like 'starting construction soon on their new tower in the ICE District' rumors?

I wonder how much space and which floors they will occupy. This is a great location for CWB and it will bring the podium to new life and with new retail.

Honestly, I like this move ALOT. Manulife is still the centre of Downtown, needs love and this will help that move along.

I'm also hoping that ICE brings back a large rental tower as that would be far more beneficial to that area and Downtown as a whole.

Good point, building a new office tower would just increase the vacancy rate. Hopefully filling up Manulife (now CWB) Place will spur the long-planned/rumored podium redevelopment. I'm sure Ace Coffee will be happy lol

Also, I hope the plans that ICE District Properties are alluding to is the original plan for a rental tower on the podium.
