New homes open for families, seniors in Burnaby

Quote:
Located at 6438 Byrnepark Dr., Susana Cogan Place is a 20-unit development with a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom homes. It is a part of a larger five-storey, 122-unit condominium known as Byrnepark by Polygon.

...
This is down the hill from Edmonds Station, next to Southridge Dr.

And any new construction for an overhead events space (read : live loads) needing all that structural load transferred down without adding columns to the bus lanes below, would need significant transfer slabs or slab bands or considerably deep steel girders which might impact how much headroom they have left over for any tethered bus power lines.

Translink may not have a say in what happens in the air above the space above the slab that sits atop the loop, but I would bet they have some say on what happens to that slab in light of those lines.

I'm just speculating here.

But it would indeed be pretty cool if they were ever able to do that.
There was never any proposal for Metrotown IV except to say it would be the site for a tower down the road. Translink is the one that proposed moving the bus stops streetside next to the Skytrain station.

https://www.burnabynow.com/local-news/proposed-metrotown-bus-move-spurs-debate-2965103

They would have kept the trolley buses in the loop and turned it into a layover spot.

To be fair it was a pub / beer store (and boxing gym according to google maps) with a big surface parking lot. If they build two levels of underground parking with three levels (retail, restaurant and office) above ground, then that's a major density improvement. The Euro details look like small cosmetic details to me.

That's a lot of projects in the pipeline (article is from 2022 so project dates might be out of date) The architects say it's opening in 2024.

Quote:
The new studios will be housed on both the current Bridge Studios Boundary campus and new sites, including: Griffiths (four sound stage facilities on five acres, opening in 2023), Lake City (21 sound stages on 18 acres, opening in 2025), Marine Way (16 sound stages on 18.5 acres, opening in 2026). Currently with 13 sound stages, Boundary will add an additional sound stage by 2026.

Griffiths opened in June:

Here's video of the Lake City Studios project. 7500 tons of steel being used in the construction. Seems like they currently have one tower crane on site.

An interesting factoid from Daily Hive last year: "Burnaby is already home to over 60% of BC's purpose-built sound stages."

Makes sense, they've got most of the Burrard Peninsula's (non-ALR) empty space - much easier to reach Lake City than Aldergrove or the North Shore.

And they also invested early on with Bridge Studios so all the infrastructure to support film studios is already probably located in the area.

And it's not just Bridge - pretty much all of Still Creek, Big Bend and Lake City/Production is full of large studios. Hollywood North is more than living up to its name.

yeah its good to see. good paying jobs are always nice to have.

though i would note that the BC government financed the first The Bridge Studios to film in the 1980s under the Social Credit. so not exactly done by business or investors.

that site is crazy to have 4 cranes on it though. quite a big site.

The rezoning would be based on the RM5s, RM5r and C3 zoning districts.

Details of the proposal include:

772 residential units;
456 condo units;
239 market rental units;
77 non-market rental units;
Building heights of 612 ft. and 504 ft.;
164,000 SF of office space, 9,000 SF of retail space;
