That, of course, is the million dollar question. There are two reasons that could happen:
- There could be a modal shift and people who are driving now could switch to transit.
- Fewer buses on the road (and the removal of bus lanes) will make more room for cars.
For the first, there is some disagreement on here about it but IMHO it will be a gradual transition and we won’t see a sudden change. Only time will tell for sure.
For the second, it will really only be a benefit in the east where temporary bus lanes were created on the 417 and Nicholas, which will be available to all vehicles once the confederation line is open. Of course induced demand will foil it up pretty quickly
