A name for Noirishers

How about a "Fright" of Noirishers?

Tijuana, Mexico. [c.1920s]

I imagine these pleasure seekers are daytrippers from Los Angeles.

Ebay

Why else would they be going gah-gah over the sign.

I had a quick look through the list of collective nouns at wiktionary.org earlier today. Near the top was an "argumentation of historians" - that seems to fit us quite well.

The fact that it was during Prohibition and the cantina was serving might have had something to do with it

Cheers,

2717 Altura Avenue, La Crescenta, California. Pre-flood photo. [c.1931]

Ebay

I believe this little house has survived but there is no way to get a closer look at it.

Was there, at one time, a street between (and running parallel with) Prospect and Altura Avenues? (you can see a line)
The way it is now, 2717 Altura is three house in from the actual street. ...How did that happen?

Check it out for yourself HERE

And if that line between Prospect & Altura used to be an alleyway...it still doesn't make much sense.

Here's why I think it's the same house. (the porch roof appears to match)
.................................................................................................................................SOUTH is at the top.

gsv / NORTH is at the bottom.

Also...what's up with the rocks on top of the porch?

DETAIL

Ward off evil spirits?

OK, not sure about the rocks....(but they do call it Rock Crescenta).
I lived up in Montrose for about 20 years and know the area well. The house is a survivor. It was built in 1920 and it doesn't look like it moved, even during the flood. The straight line behind it is just the property line and maybe an easement. On the other side of Rosemont(which becomes Roselawn south on Honolulu) is Evelyn, but it doesn't continue past Rosemont. Here's the 1944 aerial view from Framefinders:

via Framfinder
I added in the street names, the location of the La Crescenta School and where the freeway is now. Our little house is circled.
and a zoomed in view:
via FrameFinder

Our little house is three lots above Raymond. It's in the same place it is now, and there may be a house in front of it(it's hard to tell).

ETA: CORRECTION, it should be Fairway, not Fairfield. (I now live in eternal shame.)

Looks great. Thanks. Scott Charles

Questions for Beaudry:

Looking at the original, Are there two people in this area of the photo? I see one guy who looks like he is wearing a cowboy hat and another person sitting down.

Also, can you make out what was written here:
