Wilmington, DE (Philly's little brother to the south) is having a horrible year ...
already 20 homicides for a city of approx. 72,000. To go along with 80 shooting incidents.
The all-time record for homicides/year is 26, set in 2015.

Yeah. Obviously I'm referring to official numbers here but Lagos would have a pretty huge murder rate I'm sure --- IF it had official numbers with a reasonably standardised recording system in place. I don't think it has either, the former is more likely but I don't think they even publish those.

In terms of the latter, I just think Nigeria has too crap an organisational structure to count stuff.

Talking of Asia don't forget Karachi. Murder rate actually comes out every year and appears standardised, but the numbers look far too low. Even if they're quite high for cities of a similar population.

In 2013 when Karachi had an official record 3,000 murders (it's since dropped to 700 amazingly), this was still fewer than Rio and Mexico City. Maybe or maybe not São Paulo and Fortaleza were higher/lower I need to find the exact numbers again, very close between those and Karachi that year.

People have said Venezuela hasn't been releasing official numbers in recent years and those ones might have DUI's within. Apart from the uncertainty of the source I do believe the Caracas total isn't disimilar to that anyway, probably in the 4,000's (maybe over 5K including police shootings) with a pop. of around 3.5m. The city had similar numbers in 2012 before they stopped releasing them.

Otherwise the Rio---Johannesburg---Mexico City triad are probably top three as I said earlier. For 2015. Still waiting for some to release 2016 numbers.

SF is at 28, after a tourist was killed in a fight outside their hotel on Russian Hill. There were 18 murders at this time last year.

Oakland is also at 28, after two people died in a shooting in East Oakland. There were 20 at this time last year.

I doubt it. On the grand scheme of things that is very small.

Sounds like the Bay Area is being affected by AB 109, prop 47 and prop 57 the same way Southern California is.

We are having a bad year(over 55 so far I think) but I can't find any recent numbers for Indy and I am wondering if they are doing better or worse this year.

The last thing I saw was on April 7th they had 26. They used to have a tracker but they got rid of it last year. http://fox59.com/2017/04/07/violent-...m-crime-fixes/

Things have picked up since then I feel like they are in the mid 40's right now.

I just happened to check a newssite there and they had a triple homicide and are apparently at 52 as of yesterday.

They are apparently at about where they were last year, with Columbus slightly ahead of them now and way ahead of where it was last year at 55 I think.

Dang I remember early in the year they had that 3 weeks without anyone being killed I thought it was going to slow down. Columbus is already at 55? That's crazy. What are they usually at like 30?

Columbus has been averaging about 100 for a number of years. There were 106 last year, and that was considered a bad year sort of, so 2017 already being at 55 is shaping up to be the worst year in a long while. Apparently there have also been an unusual number of double homicides.

I follow the news there and it seems to be mostly drug-related. Just curious if these other cities are seeing spikes for the same reasons.

How many South/Midwest cities are seeing an uptick in homicides? Seems like quite a few.
